Risky, looks like you're doing well with fatherhood. Thoughts on #2?

It took awhile for the second pregnancy. We gave ourselves a cut off date but twins happened before we hit the mark. At that point, if we missed the cut off then I would have been happy with just the one and not felt I was missing out.

Yea, lots to take into account. I definitely think 1 kid is plenty to experience the joys of parenthood, but having grown up as an only child i think a sibling would be a more fun to grow up...but then i have to consider at what expense? Not talking financially (even though that is also a factor) but the time commitment required to be the parent i want to be would require giving up other things.

Either way honestly i don't care, 1 or 2 or 3, whatever life brings my way i will be perfectly happy with \:\)

If you're gonna have another, do it soon. We have 3.5 years difference between the 2 kids, and being in our mid-30s at the time, it's a little too much. We were getting comfortable with the first kid since he was getting more independent at 3.5. It was almost like being a new parent again when the 2nd was born. Total shock to the system physically and mentally. Would've preferred them to be 2 years apart.

we have some friends who had trouble with their first one, and went to fertility clinics etc, took a long time. They thought the second would have troubles as well so didn't really worry, and would you know it the first ones not even 1 and a second is on the way \:\)

I mean really is there an "ideal" age gap? So many opinions on that, some people prefer close, others like them spread out a few years. I am not really sold on one being better than the other. It's all situation specific.

I personally think I would prefer them closer together, but having them a few years apart seems like the more common sense approach.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. It was the case for us. First one took quite a bit of effort. Second and third were one shot deals ;\)

Having said that I think most people have an easier time after the first but I know several couples where that wasn't the case.

Sarcastic? No, prenatal classes made it perfectly clear that you have to be pretty careful when doing the deed post birth as it's really easy for the woman to get pregnant again...so yes one shot deals are very common following your first.

I highly encourage you to make your opinion known to the ministry of health.

I am sure they will do a full peer review of anecdotal evidence!

Prefer closer together so they can play with each other for the first 10 years and give us some time to relax and cook/work while they play with each other.

A 6 year old is not likely to play with a 2 year old (4 year gap)
A 4 year old is likely to play with a 2 year old (2 year gap)

However, after having 2 with a 2 year gap, I wouldn't mind if we waited because my business took a hit as I never have a chance to bring it back to full operation. Also, the older one (2.5 right now) is the best time to play with him but we can't give him the attention he deserves as we need to take care of the baby. Lastly, really looking forward to a solid 8 hour sleep.

One of the toughest things that I ever did...for my older one. The younger one was easier cause I was immune to the crying and screaming by then.

keeping the 4yr old quiet if he acts up is the biggest bitch in the world if the

kid got sick for the first time...that was a good run.

Wasn't too bad, but fuck is it hard to wipe her face.

Also, changing diapers on the change table? nope, it's a 2 person thing now.

Hate cold weather...

Just wait until they get to daycare. The kid will be sick every other week for 2 months. Nothing you can do but fight through it.
