Anybody here have one or know someone with one? I've just been looking through some of the entrance requirements and most require two letters of recommendation. One from current employer and a second from a post secondary professor. I think I'll have trouble with number two. I haven't really had much interaction with professors since finishing university.
So Why do I want to do this? Well, I like education, I'm late 30s, no kids, not married. It's kind of like "If not now....when" kind of thing.
This wouldn't be till 2018 tho as I'm still working on finishing CPA.

What's your end goal here?
What school?
Answer will vary quite a bit based on those two.

I honestly see no point in an MBA that is not from a US Ivy League school. You will probably come out of a Rotman or Shulich program with a Sr. manager level job that pays $70-100k. Seems like a shitty investment to me considering the cost nowadays. Given your age, your experience should be your differentiator.

End goal would be the big thing for me. If there is a job that I want to get to that will require an MBA, then it is worth looking into. Otherwise, its a waste of time and money. Furthermore, people may feel you are over qualified and may feel bored at a job if you have all these academic achievements.

MBA imo is a HUGE waste and ultimately no ROI especially if you have your CPA.
CPA opens all doors, it comes down to the individual. MBA won't do much for someone with an accounting designation.
Only thing a good Canadian MBA (Ivey/rotman/schulich) will do for you is provide you access to people/networks/industries you would otherwise have a hard(er) time getting into if you realy want to get into PE/VC/IB. That's it.

Honestly, I don't really have an end goal per say. It's more of a personal goal at this point than anything else. Like I said, I enjoy education and I'm not married, no kids, so at the current moment it's something that I'm interested in. Never really thought of the possibility of being considered over qualified tho.

Cost vs financial ROI usually doesn't make sense from what I've seen (given experience, accomplishments and character goes further) however why not if you want to.
Usually if you get to a certain level and a company wants you to have it they will send you for an executive version.

My wife just finished her Masters. Some nursing management deal. But, now she can teach at college level and maybe some universities, so in her case it was for a reason.

Teaching/being a prof of some kind would be also something I'd like to do as well. Mind you, pretty sure to be a legit prof you need to have a PhD. and I'm not sure if I'm PhD material. Seems like so far the general consensus is nay to MBA.

MBA does make sense in some instances, the reason it doesn't in your case is because you will have a CPA.
CPA > MBA
You want to be CFO, CPA You want to be a Controller, CPA You want VP Finance, CPA
See the trend? Jeff nailed it earlier, experience/accomplishments/character go far beyond what any MBA can offer to a CPA.
If you weren't getting your CPA then obviously the above doesn't stand, but for someone with an accounting designation you stand to gain zero (redundant learning, concepts already covered by CPA) from an MBA when you consider the cost and time commitment.
I still think there is value in an MBA for people with technical/non finance backgrounds. An engineer with an MBA is still a great combo imo.

There's this really cool site call Google - you can type in questions and it tells you stuff!
http://schulich.yorku.ca/admissions/tuition-fees-costs/
(will leave the Int'l student column out)
Cost Per Term: 2017-2018* (Fall 2017, Winter 2018, Summer 2018) Including supplementary fees $19,000 (Full-Time) $7,650 (Part-Time)
Cost Per Term: 2018-2019* (Fall 2018, Winter 2019, Summer 2019) Including supplementary fees $19,930 (Full-Time) $8,020 (Part-Time)
Estimated Total Tuition Fee** $77,900 (Full-Time) $81,000 (Part-Time)***
http://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/Degrees/Ma...FeesandExpenses
Rotman (for comparison) Annual Tuition Fees: Full-Time Class of 2018
Applicable to students entering the Full-Time MBA program in 2016.
Canadian Citizens & Permanent Residents International Students 1st Year Tuition $48,480 CAD ($37,330 USD)
2nd Year Tuition $49,929 CAD ($38,060 USD)
Total Tuition Fee $98,409 CAD ($75,390 USD)
If I had that much money in hand, I'd invest it and hopefully the returns will mean it will build up towards my retirement fund. No way I'm putting myself into debt at this point in life (about to hit 40 soon) ...
If academia is your passion, there are probably other more economical ways to go about it.

I'd follow risky's advice. He knows a lot more about the whole CPA vs MBA than anyone else here.
Were you swinging off his left nut as you typed this?

Ya, $80k wow.....I didn't really get that deep into cost, but thats WAY more than I expected it to be. I figured I could do $35-$40k without "financing" it. I wonder if a masters program qualifies for OSAP lol. not that it would make a difference. $80k is $80k....even if I got $20k in grants from OSAP, that would still put me at $60k which is 50% over my budget.
I don't want an MBA that badly.
