Hmmm... This is intriguing as the PC stuff is less expensive. Oddly enough, we were comparing the Good Start stuff - concentrate vs powder and I think we concluded somehow the concentrate ends up being a little cheaper... I'll dig into the PC stuff after we finish all the Good Start I've hoarded.

we use Parents Choice brand from Wal-Mart as it's actually very good. switched over from some of the mainstream brands. mind you he only does 2 formulas a day.

While on this flooding spree, apparently if you don't get the sleeping down at 4 months kid will be fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkked.

We are trying really hard not to deviate from the sleeping pattern, everyday we put her to bed at 7pm without exceptions. Everyone is telling us if you don't nail it down early, GNSP.

We've never been rigid with the sleep schedule. For us the key to getting her to sleep was inducing itis lol.

during the school year we start putting her to bed at 830p, currently 930-10p. Fuck rigid sleep schedules, how are you as a parent suppose to have a life? How are you going to go out for dinner? Socialize with friends?

I'm all about adapting my kid to all situations and have been that way since day one.

Apparently the sleeping habits developed around the 4-6 month mark are what sticks. If you fuck this up, your kid will have sleeping issues indefinitely (so "they" say).

Putting her to bed early is great though, then we have the whole night to chill and do all the chores that were left for weeks on end

That part I don't understand. I love the fact my daughter doesn't sleep too early so that we can spend some time with her during the week.

So when kid is a toddler what time will you be putting her to sleep? My point is my kid has never been on a strict schedule. My cousin has a rigid schedule for her kid... bah. Setting up anything with her is damn near impossible. Oh baby has to be in bed by that time. Oh it's nap time...

Risky and Hatorade are on opposite ends on sleep schedules, but neither is correct/incorrect. Do what works for you. Yes Hatorade is correct in saying that it is difficult to plan things if your baby/kid is being put down to sleep at 7pm every night. I know because I lived it. But on the flipside as Risky mentioned you have some time to yourself to do chores, work, whatever. When kids go to sleep is when you have your evenings to yourself. Do what works for you. I agree with Risky in nailing down the sleeping schedule as early as possible. Get them in that routine, whether it means putting them to sleep at 7pm or 9pm. Kids/babies will adapt to it and it will be their routine.

I think there is confusion as to what a "strict" or "rigid" schedule is.

We are not doing any sort of strict sleeping schedule, the only thing we aim to do on a weekly basis is putting the kid to sleep around the same time, which is between 7-8, the routine starts around 7.

We don't schedule when she feeds or naps, she decides that as we go along. We don't do full feedings at night however or she won't eat much during the day. We also try not to feed her close to bedtime so she doesn't associate feeding with sleep.

So having said that, from a common sense/practicality point of view, putting them to bed at the same time is beneficial for the kid and parent, whether that's 7pm or 1am that's irrelevant, depends on your kid, ours prefers earlier, so she goes to bed earlier.

Also, we don't cancel on life because of her sleeping schedule lolwtf, this weekend we had a bbq to attend to and we didn't get home until 9, put her to bed, next day is a fucking mess. If they don't have some sort of routine with sleep they are way more cranky the next morning (our case anyway, I assume this is common).

As she gets older, I am sure her bed time will move to 8pm, 9pm, whatever. So comparing a 5 year old's bed time to a 4 months old, I don't understand that, but again I've said this before I don't understand 99% of the general population and the shit they do so that's on me.

As a side note, there is a ton of research out there linking sleep issues with kids into adulthood if they aren't following a sleeping routine (bed at the same time, etc - this does NOT mean a strict schedule, it means a basic routine). So from my perspective why set them up for a failure when a basic routine mostly driven by the kid is a good thing.

We have the kids scheduled but are pretty fluid with it at the same time. Bedtime process starts at 8, sleeping before 9 if stories are to be read but mostly I am heading downstairs by 8:45ish (includes baths and clean up). With sports it gets later as some of their soccer games start at 7:30 which means we are not home until 9 and go from there. We try to keep dinners fairly scheduled but shit happens sometimes which backs up the whole process to bed but everything gets easier and more fluid as they age.

Now when the twins where infants, we were militant about the schedule and had everything down to the minute. Fuck everyone else, our (wife and I) sanity was above all.

We were pretty strict about getting home for about 7:30 when the kids were younger. But now that our youngest is 4, we don't worry too much about it. There are days when we will go out until 10 or 11, and they will adjust accordingly. The worst part is that they will get up no later than 7 regardless of bedtime.

Ok, I see what you're saying now. Yes we are the same with my kid (not named after my mother). I agree that there needs to be a routine without a doubt and also kids need their sleep. It's the whole no bending of the rules/time that is fucked imo. Like 7:30pm is bedtime no matter what even if the kid isn't sleepy yet because they had a long nap during the day kind of bullshit.

I agree... My kids have ALWAYS been in bed by 630... (seems so early, but it works.. they both sleep..and they both sleep until past 8am) It's a war zone any time we push bed time back.

Neither of my kids ever gone to bed before 9 pm during their infant, toddler stages.

Hell, we are just sitting down for dinner at 7:30 pm.

Don't care when they sleep. As long as the hours total 10+ in a day (including naps) - no concerns from me (would be nicer if the hours add up to 12 during infant stage).

Routine just brings sanity IMO - it's less work in the long run cuz if the sleep time varies a lot, leads to over tiredness / nightmares etc. Ruins the next day.

Yeah I hear that, it's nuts.. but I'll take it. One still naps, the other doesnt. While still mostly in bed at 630, now that the 4 year old is done school I've been moving his back a bit.. last night was 730.. he was ready to pass the fuck out though.

edit: he also didn't come down until 9am this morning lol
