Perfect, so how many km you think you will rack up this year? 50km-55km?
Maybe it's covered under your home insurance if you just drive it in the driveway ?

Woot. Hagerty will insure the GT3. Don't know why I didn't think about them before adding it to my current policy.
$300/yr insurance on a toy ftw!!! That's a really good price, I would have guessed in the $900 range Just don't get into an accident driving to work! Will never be driven to work and my current policy is $1100/yr but I get credited for the winter months when it's suspended. So overall I would save a bit over half with hagerty.

Agreed!
Especially if it's just a toy he's barely going to use.

This is like saying vacation travel is a waste of money, kids who don't support parents later in life were a waste of money, food that's not simply for sustenance is a waste of money. Life is about the experience and usually experiences cost money.

Let me put it to you this way: I can "experience" driving a Lambo without having to live with the god damn thing!

What did you experience? A few moments of supervised enjoyment, or unsupervised with limited throttle, or in a convoy? What if the ownership experience is what you're after? Taking it to dinner, seeing it in the garage when you take out the trash, the thrill of the seek and purchase, etc.

Disagree that the best experiences are not in any way tied to money. A beer with a best friend? A laughter of a warm, clean, fed child? Laying on a beach looking up at the stars, while on a blanket, transported to the beach in a vehicle. Money brings freedom and in turn facilitates every experience to some extent. I believe the key is to separate yourself and allow some money to flow towards these experiences rather than constantly being on the run for more money that in itself brings only peace of mind in terms of experience.

I figured that it's pretty obvious we all need a small amount of money to survive/function so it was/is a moot point
It was your comment on lambo ownership and that type of money that I referenced with my comment.

You're an idiot. For one this car is not a depreciating asset. Number 2 don't be fucking jealous that I have this car. Number 3 mind your own fucking business.
Lastly, it's a toy that I can enjoy now as opposed to when I'm 70.

Right. Cuz ownership of something that's parked 99% of the time in my garage. That I'd have to think twice about taking out when the forecast says rain. That'd have an anxiety attack over a dump truck spewing pebbles on the highway, I'd get nervous in a parking lot when I can't find 3 spots I can park diagonally across. I'd wonder why I'm spending thousands on a brake job or an overhaul for something that spends 99% of time in my garage.
Yup... that's really the "experience" I want!
Except for a collector car that appreciates in value, I see not point in pissing away my money on depreciating exotics.
I'd rather borrow them from rentals (vegas), Turo and friends with dealerships.

that's nice that you don't, but some people do. If you buy 10 condos and make a profit and never do the things you enjoy, what the fuck is the point?

A - How much was yours brand new? B - How much did you purchase it for? C - How much would you get it if you sold it today?
IF ( A>B and B>=C ) { Depreciation = true }

Own appreciating assets. Rent, or better yet... borrow for free, depreciating ones.
It's a pretty simple rich man's formula.

If that's the case then why did you buy an Acura RDX when a kia something or other would have done the same thing?

I'm not worried about dump trucks spewing pebbles all over the highway in the RDX.
And no! The HYUNDAI, which I tested, DIDN'T DO THE JOB!
you're full of shit. there's not one thing that sets the RDX apart from it's cheaper 4wd counterpart.

I've seen people who save and save and never treat themselves and the next thing you know, they have a heart attacked and they are 6 feet under.
If Hator has the financial means to buy a fancy vw, good on him.
If I had the funds, I'd be doing the exact same thing.

oh sorry. I mixed you with "the postman".
but you have a TLX so the argument could be made your car as well.
but then again, you probably ARE scared of pebbles coming off the back of a dump truck on the highway.

no that argument couldn't be made because i'm not the one saying that there is no gratification on a nice car, you're the one saying that; so if you really believe what you say and you're not talking pure doo doo butter out of you're mouth, then why did you go for a higher class RDX when a rav 4 does the exact same thing?
oh and don't get all high and mighty, so what, i like to keep a clean car looking good and in as new as condition as possible and that's just fine with me. i wouldn't live in curry land like you do but hey whatever floats your boat.
