Buy low, sell high?

I'm sure a "real" pull would be in the low 800 range.

Think it was different last year, and the last hard credit check was in 2006 according to that report.

I'm hooked. Tried Equifax (through Ratehub) and got 848.

Anything above ~760 is all treated the same.

Good to know, so no point for me to crack 800. I still don't know what I am doing "wrong"

I don't have outstanding debt, everything is paid monthly Only thing I can think of is I have a lot of available credit that's not used.

Do you use your CC regularly? It might also be because of all the open credit too? Maybe I should cancel some shit that I don't use???

It's basically a black art, trying to figure out the calculations. I've carried balances on my line of credit for a couple of years (last paid off in early 2015?), never carried a balance on a credit card, and have never had a loan outside of my mortgage. Another thing that supposedly helps is I've had one credit card for a LONG time now, and only added a second one about two years ago.

The quest for 900 begins.

How many CC's do you have eddie?

I have 5 currently, with one maxed out (took advantage of the 1 yr no interest). All the others have no balance. Maybe too much unsecured credit?

3. 2 Canadian and 1 US.

I don't think the US one showed up on the CreditKarma details

Does it really matter? How often is your credit score required? Unless you're applying for a new credit card (at this point in your life how often is this done) or a loan when is it checked. Perhaps when buying a new car for financing but we all know everyone here pays in cash.

Well a great credit score is needed for low interest loans/mortgages.

How so?

Poor credit scores do not qualify at the same rates since they are higher risk.

I'm in the same boat as Risky and Hatorade, high 700s, and I had a hard hit when we picked up the X1.

Maybe if you have 400 vs 600. But 650+ makes no difference. RFD has a 100 page thread on it

in the US if you're a 700 you get x rate, if you're 750 you get better than x rate...

where as in canada, as long you're above a certain range, your rate doesn't get any better

so if you're really low, you're dealing with a sub prime loan, but once you're in a decent category of credit score, good/better/best all means the same thing

812.

Paid off LOC last year and it jumped from low 7 to 8 in 2 months.

I read somewhere that paying off your CC's 5 days before the payment date helps, because it's around the 5days is when the CC company updates your balances.

been doing that since i read that.

You check your score every two months?

That's quite the jump for 2 months.

As mentioned for most things in Canada it doesn't get you a lower rate

They already knew my SIN.
I just entered my name and address, which you do frequently if you shop online.
You confirm the last 4 digits of the sin; they give you multiple choices.

RBC has added a TransUnion CreditView dashboard to online banking. It gives you some kind of credit score.

Mine is 900
