Traffic on DVP was steady as usual, probably 30km/h average speed going south from 401. I got off at Lawrence West (twisties bro) and was merging onto Lawrence.
I am the red dot and Scarborough thug life is the blue dot.
The merge ramp for Lawrence is short, knowing that I kept a good speed through the ramp to make sure I merge at speed (it's also uphill and the car is slow). All was great, I was on Lawrence, came in at 60km/h (which is limit, but slightly slower than flow) signal on to merge as I was accelerating to 70km/h.
Blue dot, also started accelerating when he saw me in order to pass me, it wasn't happening fast enough (drove a rusted out mazda) and I was running out of room. Since we both met at the same time, and the cars were both painfully slow he remained at my 1/4 panel for the duration of the merge ramp as I had my signal on.
What's a person to do, at this point I am going close to 70km/h am I to slam the brakes because he won't let me in and he knows I am running out of room or do I YOLO?
Of course I YOLO, he swerved into the left lane (where there was a car) and that car had to swerve into on coming traffic...then he proceeded to honk/swear at me. Not going to lie, felt like my good old days and I really wanted to 'bout that life for a moment.
Feel bad mostly for the left lane car that went into on coming traffic, had I anticipated that I would've probably stopped like a donkey and waited, otherwise I'd feel no remorse just ramming my car into this dipshit and driving off.
Thoughts? OP is a pos?

Keep inching over and force your way through but if they do not really budge, just back off of the throttle for a second and then merge. Just ignore then honk/swear and move on, no point being heated up over some asshole/bitch.

Lulz, how long have you been driving and you still don't know how to merge? HTA says through traffic has the right of way, sorry your pride won't allow you to merge safely even if it means braking and tucking behind the Scarborough POS.

I know what the rules are, I am asking what would people do IRL.
I know I am at fault from an HTA POV, but if everyone drove like scarborough POS, no one would be able to merge. I broke the "law" let's say, but he escalated the situation by blocking me.
This is how traffic/accidents are created.

Thats a redundant statement, the rust is assumed with Mazda.

if i have the "nicer" car in the equation, i'll just back off and let the shitty car take it since I "have more to lose" a nicer car would have no problems over-taking doe. This is a poor ppl problem scenario. risky is 4% not 1%
nailed it, pretty sure people working at tim's drive something nicer than a 12 year old Toyota with a dented 1/4 panel.
poors gonna poor, I think myself and scarborough POS drove equally shitty cars, making me a scaroborugh pos too? wat?

Somehow I thought you were in your TL - was scratching my head as to why you can't pass a POS Mazda...
Going w/ snapper's answer - but in this case, I'd slowly inch over rather than the YOLO swerve (but assume the risk as my fault since i didn't merge properly) just so innocent bystanders don't crash and die.
Or the fun option is jam on the brakes enough to tuck behind, then go around him and block his ass.

Makes you appreciate life You 1%'ers should try it. lol where does it end tho... eat less or shittier grade food? live in a shittier house, or in a shittier neighbourhood? wear dirty, out of style clothing? you know what makes me appreciate life...nice stuff. hahah.
I know this is an argument I will not win here ever, best not to engage
But in all seriousness, obviously there are certain things you don't skimp on especially that are directly correlated to health/well being (food/diet/exercise/not living in a ghetto).
Everything else is fair game, cars, houses, clothes, etc.
