Haha, hey I'm still able to hook all of the Hyundai owners up! Even more so now.

Can you get good price on Kia parts?

Unfortunately no. Well I can't look them up at least. Some part numbers cross over, but I have no way of looking them up.

Honestly, the moment I walked out of that place it was like a weight had been lifted. I've worked my ass off for that place, multiple 12hr days with no lunch/break during the week, working 6 days a week for the last 4 years...and all for nothing to them. But at least doing everything I have in the last decade set me up to take this position and feel comfortable doing it.

That's a great perspective on it.... Yeah, reading this, doesn't make me miss dealership life. Over 60 hours a week - totally messed up my work/life balance. And if that's the norm for that particular dealership, nobody thinks of it as dedication, but more-so an expectation. Fuck them.

Good luck in the new role, jeffe!

I find it's bad when you inherit a bunch of turds, if you built them up from the ground up it's a much better experience (which happens rarely).

My boss is already coaching me to take over his position and I haven't even started there yet lol.

The people I have under me are actually really good, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue...but everyone is replaceable if they can't meet my standards. I really think that with the people in place already I can turn that place around in no time.

I spent the morning/afternoon visiting shops and talking to friends, every single place is following me. They all said that the only reason they dealt with my old place was because of me. So in a matter of 4 hours I have practically already doubled business there. The one nice thing about the dealership industry here is that it is so condensed and I know everyone. Luckily I have built a reputation for myself and now it's speaking for itself.

Every single person I talked to said the same thing, they prefer to deal with me, they know how I operate and they will only do business with me from now on.

So, how long before you groom your protégé so you can have them do your job while you collect a paycheck while surfing forums?

Congrats! Nothing like leaving a tired old job and starting with a new, much more rewarding one!

Lol, not gonna happen. Well at least for a while, I have a lot of work ahead of me hah.

I'm so freakin' pumped to get to work. After my trip around the region yesterday it was like a huge confidence boost, hearing everyone complimenting me on my work all these years and recognizing the amount of time and effort I've put in. /feels good man pepe meme

Thanks man haha. Been in the industry for like 17 years now, and it's been a long ass time since I've been excited about working. I know that it isn't a 1%'er job, but it's all I know and I'm good at it haha.

I guess the big thing for me right now is the feeling of appreciation that I've never had before.

I guess it all comes down to the fact that I've never had to prove myself in a role like this. But getting the positive reinforcement from everyone(except my old boss... :P ) is helping me feel like I can do this and do it well. Time will tell, but I'm confident and pumped to get going and make changes.

It'll happen in time for sure. They have a great staff in place now and everyone is working for the same goal. Under the old ownership the place got a bad name, but it is getting better day by day and the new ownership is incredible. They basically re-staffed the place and got rid of all of the useless people.

It's still dealership life and isn't a glory job, it won't be fun every day, but in the end I am working to make a name for myself and get that place to where it should be. They are great with rewarding peoples efforts and really make you feel appreciated. The more money I make the company, the more I bring home, so I'm going to bust my ass to make that place as profitable as possible. My next goal is to end up in by bosses position and this place will allow me to do that.

I haven't been challenged at work in a long time...aside from working with 'challenged' people. This is going to be a huge challenge for me but I'm going into it with the right attitude and support.

I don't know your industry but do they not have some sort of non solicit clause if you go to a competitive dealership?

Ignorant question...

You are now a part manager right?
What makes one better than others, how does one gets more sales than the other?

It's not like you advertise and convince people to buy Hyundai parts.
Supporting local mechanic shops?

You are telling us how fucking awesome you are, but as long as a dealership doesn't piss me off, I am going to the most convenient location and only when I need the parts. lol

Not all dealerships charge the same prices for parts. And some are more inclined to give you a discount than others.

Accuracy, inventory management, general service(attitude, helpfulness etc...)

My shops know that when they come to me they are getting what they need right and the first time. I go above and beyond to make sure I'm getting what my shops need. Some guys may call a certain part one thing and someone else will call it another etc.. So I make sure we're on the same page. Other people assume what they're talking about and end up getting wrong parts, which in turn means a longer wait to get correct parts, which pisses the shop and their customer off.

And I'm not saying I'm not saying that I'm fucking awesome. Yes I am good at my job, but what I have mostly been getting across is how happy and excited and encouraged I feel now because of talking to the shops. Not bragging, because let's face it, my job doesn't mean shit to most of you guys so why would I brag? Just happy about the situation.

Of course. The majority of my sales are wholesale. Be it body shops or independent mechanics. As hard as it is to believe for most people, because they all have the 'big bad dealership' mentality, OEM parts tend to be cheaper than a lot of aftermarket stuff.

Also, when it comes to body repair stuff, we have programs in place to allow us to compete with aftermarket suppliers. OEM stuff will always have a better fit and finish than aftermarket. Bodyshops prefer to use OEM as often as they can. It's the insurance companies that limit them to aftermarket.
