And that's with me doing most of the work

4.5k for interlock (1k square feet, not pictured are blocks for fire pit and flower bed, etc)
1k in bins, prep, etc.
5k labour to have it installed.
2k for commercial grade drains (material only)
1k for concrete/rebar/expansion joints/misc
1.5k for natural stones for steps (not installed yet)
1k for liftmaster 8500, all new seals, completely new track kit, weather stripping, etc. (material only)
1k misc home depot items

I also ended up buying a concrete saw, 500, because why not?

I am sure I am forgetting other stuff, I have a nice pile of receipts to add, every time I do this I need to add 10% on top of my estimates as I definitely forget shit as I go along.

Damn. So if you didn't do most of the work how much more would this run? Another $10-15k?

And here I thought Risky was joking at the 17k

Expensive job, but I guess a good chunk of that was for the interlocking.

Let me ask this, was it worth it? Yes you have a nice driveway now and your drain issues have been addressed. But how about the extension of the garage? Was the additional space worth the money and effort?

I would say yes to all of the above. Everything he did was functional and looks great. This isn't some gay m-sport package add-on.

The unilock pavers that I got cost $20/square foot installed (material + labour). So I would be in for 20k on just driveway/walkways not including flower beds/firepit, etc. My cost was just under 8 excluding flower beds/fire pit.

I guess it depends how you define worth it, I wouldn't have done any of this if it wasn't worth it.

To get 100 square feet of garage space for 2k-3k is amazing imo, that's the size of a small shed, so double the price of a shed I have now utilized my house to the max.

A lot of the stuff I did isn't "worth it" to many. I could've left everything as is, the drain worked, the garage would stay small and I'd have a shitty/crumbling driveway.

I could've done asphalt instead of interlock for like 2-3k and be done with it, no work on my end, just call a company. I didn't have to go high end on the drains or getting more expensive high density concrete, could've mixed my own bags from home depot, etc.

As we all know some things are worth paying for, for me all of these were definitely worth it. I've been dying to fix the outside of the house, now that the inside is more or less done I can do it. Siding is next, that's more worth it to me than anything, I can't stand that white aluminum siding.

What are you going to do with the siding? Brick veneer?

Every time I've paid I haven't been fully satisfied simply because it wasn't done it to my standard. Don't get me wrong, I've screwed things up doing them myself, but I find more often than not the jobs come out better when I do them vs paying someone...and I don't cheap out on the people I hire either so net/net, doing it yourself is better.

No it will be this special cement board (james hardie is the brand) and all edges/windows will be trimmed out in white, the board will be a darkish grey. That's the idea for now, need to put some more thought into that because once it's done, it's done.

I'm of the mindset of if you have the skillset to do a certain job yourself, it's best to do so and take your time at it.

The only time would hire out is if it had to be done in a timely manner.

Good job Risky

I wish I have the skill set and connection like Risky, it would save a lot on home renovations/upgrades at the house.

I am sure the same job will cost double if Risky pays someone to do it.

Still unfinished and garage is a mess, installing stone on the steps and trying to finalize quotes on replacing all siding.

Also debating if I should knock out half of a wall in the garage and take up a hallway from the basement for extra square footage plus access to a crawl space, making the garage even bigger lol

When it's all done I will post pics, it's all half ass/unfinished at the moment.

1. DO IT, 100% on the more sqFt from basement > Garage.
2. I have a feeling you're going to make one of those sick-HGTV garages. Might as well install a wetbar.

I will take away some of your siding if you are just throwing it away. Building a shed and looking at options to side it.

I would save it, but no chance of it coming out clean/straight and I am going to recycle it and hopefully get a few hundred back.

For siding use this from home depot, I used it, it's cheap/easy and looks decent. No rot or any issues either:

don't bother with the paint on shit. looks great, but since I've been parking the tlx in the garage the tires pick it up and it looks like crap. I've been meaning to get off my ass and see how much the professional or proper stuff costs.

Yup, I've got some shitty paint on stuff that's coming off in big chunks. Previous homeowner I guess put it down. Stuff is garbage.

Had a pro do it in Cali, loved it, no paint coming off, easy to clean, minimal dust.

Haven't found someone to do it in the GTA and not sure how well it holds up to our winters
