"From the upper $700's" means there are 2 units priced at $788k. That allows them to make click-bait advertisements like that. The rest of the townhomes are probably over $800k

Well, we don't know the square footage or layout. But they do seem to have a backyard. Looks like they only have single car garages.

But one stupid thing: just south of the 407!!! Those on the north side of the complex are going to be hearing a lot of noise! If I'm correct, there's no sound barriers in that area.

The is a bit pricey but yes, new townhomes are now going in the 700s these days.

There are towns going for $1M in Markham at Hwy7 and Village Parkway. They are higher end and some have elevators, but crazy nonetheless.

Was talking with the wife about prices. So much woulda, coulda, shoulda of keeping our original properties and renting them out when we got married.

Ah well, hindsight and all.

Alot of Markham is still a dump. More so closer to Steeles. Unionville is where it's at.

No it's not, unionville has tons of character and it's in the middle of everything. Doesn't mean it's worth the asking price but it's a nice place, has all amentities etc and no scum

+1

Choco just hates for the sake of hating. Nothing but character especially around Unionville main.

I have a friend who sold her house on high park blvd that had tons of character, the original paned glass, original floors etc. She pocketted a nice chunk of change and moved to unionville to be closer to her parents.
When I go visit her, I don't see the character that you guys are talking about. Sure there is more variation in the builder houses (better than my hood), but its not one off houses

Relatively speaking for an intensified cookie cutter suburb, Unionville has a ton of character relative to "new Markham".

Maybe we should compare High Park to pockets of Wimbledon in London, High Park has no character comparatively.

You want character in the GTA, you generally have hoggs hollow and a few a other pockets through out. Everything else is strip mall + cookie cutter sub divisions.

You are just upset you can't afford Unionville after trolling listings in there for over two years. DOn't be mad that upper middle class don't mean shit up here

What I can say about the Markham public infrastructure:

- Viva buses and dedicated bus lanes are a great idea: links YorkU with Markham/RHill (not including the new YU campus in Downtown Maakham.)
- GO stations are fuuuucked. The 100m dash @ Unionville GO is just insane. Stouffville and Markham GO stations have zero fucking parking.
- 'Quality of living' sucks for a GO commuter once you get past a certain point, i.e. an hour on the GO, poor sleep on the train, etc...

I love where I live and have zero issues.

10 minute walk to go train.
25 minute drive to airport in rush hour.
Library/hospital/schools/grocery stores/bars+restaurants all within 15 minute walk, so parking/public transit is not necessary for anything. You could literally walk to EVERYTHING.

Still not sure why you moved to Markham if you work downtown.

Isn't this like that everywhere though - the 100 m dash is so you don't get stuck in the lot for 30 min. trying to leave. It's my exercise for the day. \:D

Poor sleep on the train better than no sleep while driving in the car; it also depends on how easily you fall asleep; some people need the QZ; i can pass out anywhere on the train as long as I have a seat (the experts are the ones that can sleep standing up. lol) - the duration takes just as long between driving and the Go; at least you can catch a power nap on the train, the only downside is you lose flexibilty in leaving.

Depends... if your work is in a shithole of a neighbourhood, you really want to live near that shithole?

Besides, people change jobs much more frequently these days. So your work could be in Oakville one day and then you might get something in Markham.

I'd say that so long as you have easy access to public transportation, where you're not packed in like sardines, and/or you have access to all major highways so you can drive anywhere in under an hour, you should be fine.

I'm still looking for a proximity-based alert/alarm app that works on the iPhone ... \:\|

iPhone has a built-in alert that does a single pop-up, but there's no way to set an alarm.

Other proximity-based apps really suck...

Only solution so far is to set a time-based alarm using iPhone's built-in alarm.

Or maybe, just maybe, you go to sleep at a reasonable hour and get enough quality rest that you don't have to sleep on the train.

Maybe.

Thank you for the rather thoughtful ideas on better use of my time on the GO commute.

Perhaps I should surf facebook, The Economist, GQ, or maybe mine some bitcoin? Oh wait, the sporadic LTE/3G along the GO corridors, how erratic they are.

Perhaps I should make friends, and chat all the way home?

What about cutting my nails, because, after all, I need to do it anyway, why not on the GO train?
