Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but it seems that a lot of you know your stuff when it comes to cameras (and hopefully camcorders). I've never purchased a camcorder, but I'll need to record lectures over the next year and I'm looking for something that will give me good sound quality from 20 feet away in a quiet room (think university lecture hall). Having it be HD would be great, but I'm mostly concerned with the sound quality, battery life and storage (some days I'll be recording 6-8 hours of footage).

Is this one any good?: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DCR-SR68-Drive-Handycam-Camcorder/dp/B0031RGKWQ

Should I be buying extra batteries or is there a better solution? (I don't know if I'll have access to plug in).

I would like to stay within the $300-$400 range (is this reasonable?). Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I didn't see a camcorder forum option. Did you mean on csi or is there an outside forum that you might recommend?

I'd look into the Canon Vixia line, but maybe consider an external microphone to get it closer if you can plug one in.

yep, canon vixia (best you can afford) + rode videomic and your set.

Your rode can sit on the hotshoe and is considered one of the best "budget" audio solutions.

New its $150, i got mine on ebay for $100 with a free custom dead cat

Looks like this (on a canon HF200)
