Thanks Chris. Man it got HOT from Hollywood all the way through Santa Monica Blvd. But had the wife and friends waiting at Mile 22 and the Run Club cheering at Mile 23.5. Much needed boost to the finish.
Full race report to come shortly (after Valentine's dinner and some ice on the knees lol).

Quick and dirty summary:
The months leading up to the race, I realized all my training had been in 50-60° weather. So when I had heard that LA was going have another record hot weekend, I basically gave up hope of a sub-4 hr goal. I was ok with that... train smarter and harder for the next one.
The day of the race was cool and dry... upper 50s. So I began thinking; maybe if I go at it hard the first half, I might be able to suffer through the hottest miles at a reasonable pace.
I averaged an 8:45/mi for the first half. Temps held in the 60s until turning off Hollywoid Blvd towards Beverly Hills. From there I eased into a 9/mi until reaching Rodeo Drive. That's when I really felt the sun beating down. Around mile 18 I could feel myself slowing down as temps crept into the mid 80s. By mile 20 I could really feel the struggle. Hot, deflated, and a little lethargic. Shortly after transitioning from Santa Monica to Wilshire, the 4:00 hr pacer passed me up. It was then I pretty much knew it was over. So I just focused on maintaining a comfortable run (vs. stopping to walk).
Couple things happened around mile 21-23. First, things started getting cooler as we crossed the 405 fwy and approached the beach. The sun's intensity faded and I began feeling some cloud cover. Second, I got a shot of adrenaline from seeing my friends and the Run Club. Finally, around mile 23.5, we hit a nice downhill and temps fell to the low 70s. I could see and feel the ocean mist and a nice breeze. It was then I realized I hadn't fallen as far behind as I had thought. With renewed energy I suddenly felt strong and focused. Just some soreness in the quads and hip flexors. So I embraced the suck and pressed hard as best as I could.
The last .2 miles I realized I still had a chance... gave it all I had and finished averaging a 7:30/mile pace.
My wife text me a few minutes later with the unofficial time... 3:59:47. I was feeling beat up but pretty damn proud that all the training had finally paid off.
Looking back I probably could have shaved another 3-5 minutes. Took a pit stop at mile 1 walked through all 24 aid stations, and stopped for a quick chat with my wife & friends. In the end a tough, hot race. But incredibly rewarding. Some stats in the links.

Thanks guys. Waddling around as best as I can today. Not sure what the next goal will be. But I'm sure something will come up.
