How do I fight the ins co for the most money? These jokers are gonna lowball me for sure. Haven't heard from them yet but the body shop said damage is like $5k and is very unlikely ins silk fix.
Now I'm stuck. What do I get to replace it? I don't want to spend much on a replacement. This sucks, I didn't want to get rid of the car. There wad nothing wrong with it.

Not sure but I think if you can prove via autotrader the value of your car is worth more than their offer, you might get an increase.

I have gone through this process a few times (not for myself but helped family members out). Traditionally you never take their first offer ( unless you're this co-worker of mine).
If you had winter tires or anything else of "value" (not mods) or repairs keep them in consideration. Even if you don't have receipts. Try to find the closest matching vehicle to yours in terms of year, kms, options, etc. You can even use Kijiji as a source.
Also remember that you will be (should be) paid an additional 13% (HST) on top of their offer.

is this a beater, or is this your "nicer" car?
if you're looking for a beater, i may have just the call for you.
let me know!
it is a "beater" per-say but not a beater. The Mazda wasn't worth much, but it was by no means a beater either. It ran well, wasn't rusted, had leather, a/c worked great, had only 140k, and just had new front brakes done last yr. I drove it everyday, summer and winter. It was my work horse. The intention of the Mini was never to dive it daily. It was my fun car.
So replacing the Mazda is going to be difficult without spending $7k+ The budget I have set for a replacement is the same amount I receive from insurance which is still undetermined at the moment. I'd rather not have to pump more money but its unlikely that I'll be able to achieve that.

I might be selling my beater, non beater 09 G37x w 217xxxkms. If you're interested let me know. Every drive it gets is 1000kms+ (regular trips to Cincinnati, NJ, Chicago), it's been rock solid and is currently on loan to a buddy with A4 issues.
That car seems as if it would be way out of my price range.

How bad was the hit? Do you have any pics? Sometimes a 5000$ insurance repair estimate can be cut in half if you are smart about part choices, avoid blending panels etc.. if the quarter panels haven't buckled and the trunk floor isn't buckled I would buy it back and fix it. It would beat having to look for a used car in your price range or add money out of pocket to buy less of a crap shoot car. A write off isnt necessarily branded. Its only branded if they wanted to replace a structural panel on the estimate. You say it isnt rusty but unless the thing was oil sprayed early and often I bet the rear end panel is rotted out behind the bumper, and not worth fixing.

The car was rust proofed very well. It really had no rust at all. As hard to believe as that is its true nonetheless. The quarters on both sides have buckled a bit yes. Entire gate needs to be replaced as well as at least one tail light. Bumper cover as well. The hardest thing about finding body parts/panels is finding ones that aren't rusted. I did think about repairing it myself but I'll never find parts. I might still buy the car back, take a few pieces off it, sell a few others then send to scrap.

Who are you going to sell the parts to? Aren't all of these in the junkyard already? XD
Well, *if* someone were to need parts, my car is an excellent parts car due to not being rusted. I've also not abandoned the idea of buying another P5 and pulling off all the good parts from my car and keeping for future use. For example I have new tires, brakes, plugs and wires, and fuel filter. I can pull my remote starter out too. My car has leather interior too so I could swap my leather into another Protege if I were to buy. I have my projectors on the car as well. These are all little things but they add up. Not a fan of getting another Protege but I have to do whats necessary to keep my costs down. I was not planning on buying car atm so it's really put a dent into my 2016 plans. Gone are the days where all I want to do is buy/mod cars. Ain't got time for that shit now.

Been there, done that, it's not worth it. If your Protege was exceptionally clean rust wise (underbody and all), I'd would buy it back and have it repaired. Send me the repair estimate, and pictures of the car. PM Me. Parts wise you would be only changing the tailgate, tail light, and bumper assembly. Tailgate and taillight would be used, Rebar would be an aftermarket, bumper cover could be used. You would have to repair all the body panels if they arent seriously crushed to shit otherwise costs to replace would be prohibitive. I know you wouldn't be able to find a good used tailgate easily, just put any rusted piece of shit on there until you can find a better one.

Ya so I really don't have time to fiddle around with fixing it. I'm in the process of working on professional courses which is quite hectic whilst working FT (obviously). It was an 03 anyway so I'm just letting it go. I really don't have the mindset right now to fuck with it and I definitely don't want it just sitting on my driveway all busted waiting for repairs. I fought them a bit but was only able to get $3200 out of the car. Going tonight to pull my plates and radio and done with this bs. Just gonna take the money and run. Originally I didn't want to drive the Mini everyday but I don't really have much choice so thats that. My courses are big money and so tightly spaced together. Needless to say I wasn't planning on buying another car anytime soon. And now that its happened I have to adjust my plan. A shitty situation overall for me, but it is what it is. I wouldn't have sold the Mazda, even for $4000 cuz i need to spend at least $6k to replace it. I wanted to keep it till it was completely toast. I could have easily gotten another 3-5yrs out of it. But shit happens unfortunately. Perhaps when I have time later (and can actually plan for it) I'll pick up a Smart car or an IQ or some shit.

$50 for a headgasket and coolant and a weekend of your time.
OP, i'm sure if you look around enough you can get a 3-5yr car with that money, maybe if you put a bit more into it too (if you have time)
