They're much better trained than the average gun owner though. .
you might be surprised at the lack of training and range time they actually get.
Cops don't aim for limbs. They aim for the biggest part. Your torso. This isnt Hollywood.

This case brings back quite a few bad memories. Our family has also lost someone the same way. I have friends and family on the force and opinions are quite mixed. Ive had the knife vs gun debate with quite a few officers and unfortunately, now I see their point. I've participated in an exercise where two people are 40 paces away, one has a cel phone in their pocket, and the other has a marker. The goal is for the person to take out their cel phone out of their pocket, unlock it, and then take a picture before the other person rushes him and gets markered up anywhere on the body.
I was the one holding the phone, I got slashed at least nine times before I got a picture off.

I don't feel for the cop, as mentioned before, he was the only one who drew his sidearm. No one was in immediate danger. They should have waited for the Sergeant with the taser to help control the situation. I heard the Sergeant was in hot water as well for not being on the scene soon enough.

I always wonder if the cops would shoot the hands/arms/legs instead of the heart/head to stop Yatim. I mean the goal is to stop him from weaving the knife at the cops but he was inside an empty street car. If Yatim was charging to the officer with a knife, I guess that's another story. I think the common misconception here is that every cop is a sharpshooter with their handguns... They're much better trained than the average gun owner though. Except perhaps the military, they fire their guns at the range much more than anyone else. You'd figure firing hundreds of rounds every week would make you a lot better at it.
Cops shoot to kill, not to stop SMH
