I add parts here and there, $20 bucks, $200, $2,000, but my best mod was only $11.95......
Everyone knows of energy suspension motor mount inserts, which do help. I felt they stiffened up the front, but didn't stop alot of the wheel hope I suffered.
When I was rebuilding my motor I found my drivers side main motor mount was severaly torn, attributing to alot of engine movement. I found a new one online for $70+ bucks. I quickly looked for another option.
3m Window Weld. Best stuff evAr. I pulled the mount and filled that sucker full. I had forgotten about it until I finally got my car back on the road.....car doesn't hop, and firmly plants the tires so well they go up in smoke. 2nd gear hits tires smoke, 3rd lets out a loud yelp....this @ only 9psi......short shifting @ 6-7grand.
I took off my passenger side main tranny mount and filled it to the brim also. Takes a few days for it to fully cure and stiffen, b/c of the extra amount.
I bought one tube and it has went through 2 mounts so far, you could possibly squeeze 3 out.....
Regardless, this trick has been around, thought I would refresh everyone's memories....
Carry on....

You should take a look at the beast that ProFab Engineering makes. It was $50 and looks like it could withstand a nuclear blast.

Where did you exactly fill the mount in from? Is there a hole in it somewhere?
Also I am probably going to be doing the motormount inserts soon, is there a way to find out if my motor mounts are torn w/o taking out the motor visually? My car started having severe wheel hop after the shop took my tranny out to rebuild it.
Any tips are appreciated. I want to get rid of this annoying wheel hop since it has completely taken out the joy of me driving the car..

it's just like one guy who builds these things in his garage or something, but I have seen some of the most kick ass parts come from him. I have two lower mounts and a rear strut bar from him, they kick the crap out of any other aftermarket pieces. He is very well known for traction bars, although I don't believe he still produces them.
when you fill up the mounts, are you supposed to do it with the rubber it it still or are you still supposed to burn it out like you would for ES inserts?

So you did the actually engine mounts (Driver Side and Tranny), not the Torque mounts?
Are you also running bushing on the torque mounts?
I have a tranny mount and a driverside mount available, but I was thinking that this mod would be most effective at the torque mounts.

check out this tutorial. pretty much shows you want to do http://www.raktron.com/misc/mt.htm
i did the same thing but i bought some 80A durometer liquid urethane from mcmaster-carr and filled my mounts with that. it was like 28 bucks shipped for a pound of liquid urethane and if filled a couple mounts. its also available in 60a and 94a durometer if you wanted something softer or stiffer than 80a

would someone be able to explain how to take the motor mount out to do this project? I don't always understand things about cars, so I don't see how you can take out the motor mount without taking out the motor.

I'm not going to believe that an epoxy compound is going to fix a collapsed steel motor mount for more than a couple of months.

I'm sure there was no damaged steel in your mount. FYI the mounts look some-what like peace signs, the object is to fill the gaps and create a psuedo-solid bushing.
How long did it take your Windo-Weld to dry? I filled my torque mounts almost 7 days ago and they are still as soft and guppy as before any compound at all.

The compound, this morning, is still goopy and will stick to my finger if I touch it. I bought 3m Windo-Weld. WTF is my problem, did I buy the wrong white tube of Windo-Weld?

Well it is still soft as shit and it is about time to re-install them. I will go buy another tube (a white tube that says Wind-Weld with black compound) and add more..

Okay, I had a buddy do mine over the weekend...three out of the five...filled em on saturday afteroon, put em back in on sunday afternoon (earlier today). I drove home from Indianapolis to Chicago and it was great. The car vibrates a little bit more, but barely. Just enough to make it feel like the car has some conviction now...I don't know...it's hard to explain. It just kinda feels like a more solid machine now. Shifting is smoother and I'm pretty sure I notice it putting power down to the ground a little bit better (I don't know...this could all be in my head...except for the extra vibration...i'm sure of that).
It really is a good mod.

would it be wise to get new motor mounts along with motor mount inserts at the same time?

But does it really matter though? I mean, you're filling them with a rather firm, rubber like substance as it is...
I'd say it doesn't matter...

or just buy inserts and also use the window weld. the GSR i just swapped into a eg hatch had this set up with busted ass mounts and the engine literally does not move at all. the next best thing would be solid metal mounts

I couldn't hande my motor being any stiffer though...my car shakes right now, but it's just enough. And Matt, remember how you warned me about the windoweld not being totally cured in the inside and possibly squirting out? Yeah, well....it did. It's no big deal though, just thought I'd tell you.

I used those hot glue sticks from WalFart that cost $5 a bag. I did the mounts in my 88 Wagovan since the originals were completely shot. Used a propane torch and taped paper on one side to keep the hot glue from running out, put it side ways on a spray can cap so it would lay flat with the center sleeve down in the cap. Worked great, hardened in less than 15 minutes and is stronger/harder than the polyurethane in the tube. The engine would hardly move at all but this was a weak D15B2, lol. It didnt really cause much vibration either.

there's a guy in Toronto that makes motor mount inserts for the rear and front mount which is similiar to what your doing and they worked great. Noticed a big difference. I'll probably try this out when I get ready to put a new T belt on this summer.
