I presume this is going to be pretty tough. Not really planning on any extra workouts haha. Wonder how sad my run is going to be at the end. Guessing pretty bad. Some people who seem to be around my fitness finish the half marathon at the end around 2:30 lol

I figure with the rolling hills and the 1000' climb at mile 42 I'll go around 3h on the bike leg

Apparently there's a 2 mile jog from the swim to the bike, counts as part of T1 I guess?

Oh well, I signed up because the weekend sounds like a cool party (Woodstock type camping/music event etc) and some of the people I swim with are going and vineman sold out in like 8 minutes so I missed the signup last month

Pretty excite. I did have exactly (1) long ride (50+ miles) where I felt like I could run after in 2015 haha. I credit this mostly to switching back to my road bike and proper pacing /not a good omen

If anything I'll be doing a little more of the long rides I guess, but 2016 (as 2015) I will be mostly working on my weakest leg--the run. Hoping I get my bike fit settled on my tri bike before this. I only have (1) tri on my schedule before wildflower on apr 30 so I guess I'll know by then either way.

Edit: just read how the 2.2m transition works. In 2014/2015, San Antonio lake was below 20% so they moved it to a creek 2 miles from the normal spot.

So there's a 2.2m run and T1a transition after the swim, counted as part of T1 and run is included in the normal run time. Then there's T1b by your bike after the 2.2 mile run. The the normal bike, then T2' then a 10.9m run to complete the. Half marathon and finish the 70.3

They add the 2 run segments together for the run split. Hopefully El Niņo fills the lake so this nonsense doesn't happen this year. Latest data I can find has the lake at 3% as of 12/22/15, yikes

5 days out! I completed exactly [1] longcourse style brick where I got to feel like what race day will probably feel like. Zero idea on HR zone/pacing speed, course is hilly/rolling on both the bike and the run.

Only ballpark idea I have is to keep HR on the bike at/under 135 or so based on the ~50 mile ride + 5 mile run brick I did yesterday. Even tho its hilly I might go a decent amount sub 3H ~near 20.0 mph or so based on what 135 HR seems to provide based on yesterdays test ride. Unless its pretty windy I guess. I held a pretty decent aero position for ~3 hrs yesterday too which is a first for me. Got slightly more flexible I guess

Oh and going sub 2H on the run there also sounds like a dream lol. There is a hill I will almost certainly have to walk a bit on. haha.

so no idea what to do other than to enjoy it, try not to crash, and also try not to die.

yep, thanks. I imagine somewhere around mile 6 of the run I will be either walking or questioning my decision making skills once again :p

hopefully the naked ladies dudes at mile 4 help mitigate that somewhat

should be pretty cake until that point as I'm not trying to race it

I sorta am secretly hoping that if I back off enough on the swim/bike that I might actually have an enjoyable time picking off some back-of-the-packers with a weak 2:0n:00 half marathon at the end haha. On your left suckers!

Good luck man. I don't know what real exercising over two hours really feels like. Part of me thinks that after that long on the bike, I'd look forward to the run, the other part of me says lol nope.

How's the water looking for the swim? Didn't they have to move it a few miles away last year or something?

I say just go out and enjoy it. Push where you feel like it, cruise when you need to. Don't get drunk the night before. \:D

san antonio lake still at drought levels, el nino completely whiffed the central coast apparently. will be held at harris creek 2 miles from the bike/run transition so you get to do a 2 mile run [counts as part of your run] over to the normal transition post swim. 3 pair of shoes day [run 1, bike, run 2], so the final run is 'only' 11.1 miles to work out to be the same. I sure hope I wont be carrying my wetsuit the entire 2 miles like I did in HMB at the beach [half mile jog w/wetsuit and flip flops sucked lol]

last I checked lake san antonio was showing like 6% [was 3% in december, aka completely dry]. the creek is fine tho/running

water will be 64-68 but I'll probably wear my new wetsuit for the speed boost , otherwise I would totally speedo it. Who knows, still might speedo it

welp since apparently I'm too fat to fit my 2XU:R3 brand new size 'L' wetsuit I'll be the only guy speedo-ing the swim once again.

fuck.gif, I weighed in at 188.5# on a calibrated scale too, and I'm 6'1

per the size chart it fits if you're 5'9 to 6'2 and 187-207#

it's tight on my legs which is a riot because chiken and I cant even zip the back up lmao--maybe with an assistant but even then I'm sure I wont be able to swim as at that point I'd be slowly turning purple

enjoy the view, ladies

They are supposed to be really tight (I don't know if you've ever worn a Tri wetsuit, but it's a totally different fit than a surf suit) and I usually needed help getting it zipped too. It'll go on a bit easier if you pre-wet it, and you need to flood it once you have it on and you're in the water.

update: apparently I am simply 'husky' haha

but in the shower I was sorta able to start the zipper barely by performing various conniptions

my SO was able to zip it up by pinching in all my extraneous back-fat I guess. Damn, it is tight as shit in the chest tho. Curious who the hell modeled for the Large?

anyways doing some arm circles and basic shoulder rotation I dont see it impeding swimming, certainly not for 1.2m anyways. Guess it will work. Will try it in that lake first tho heh. Speedo on deck..

thks chris
