Looking at pulling the trigger on a 7D mk II. Places like B&H and KEH are around the $1499 mark. Canon refurb is $1199 and there are a few stores on Ebay (Based out of NY) that are $1199 as well. My only concern is that I get a copy that has an autofocus issue (Which I've heard the old ones had, the newer ones don't seem like they do) and I'll be fucked if I need to send it in for warranty work.

http://www.42photo.com is another place that has it for about $1159, I'm assuming this is a grey import as well (Based out of NY)

Price up here in Canukistan is $1799 + 13% tax, lol. Even with the horrible exchange rate I save $$$.

Thoughts?

CanonPriceWatch.com has the 7D2 body only for $1349, not grey market. I got my 5d3 and 70-200 through them without issue. My 70-200 was filled by B&H and my 5d3 from a different vendor, but arrived in sealed box, as described no issues.

I've heard good things about greentoe.com as well, where you name your price and they find a vendor to fill it at your price, but I've never used it personally.

I've also heard that Canon will service grey market cameras, but again, no personal experience with this...

I'd go refurb eight days a week before grey market.

Refurb is basically the same price through Canon. I'm guessing warranty would be the same as factory as well?

Yep, one year for both. I bought my 5D2 from them refurb, no issues (well, except the issues they all had).

This, unless it was literally half off or some other ridiculous deal.

Am I wrong for thinking a refurb camera is a better buy than new, on the theory that it's been put together and checked by the factory/authorized service center twice so it's more likely to be good?

Kinda my thought. I've never gotten a factory refurb item that didn't look brand new, and it stands to reason that it's been given extra attention so it's possibly better than the average item rolling off the production line.
