Trying to fix my in-laws' computer by installing a legit copy of Win7. I haven't built a PC in ages and forgot all the steps and what not.

- If I format the drive does it make it "unbootable"?
- How would I go about formatting it? I have a laptop running Vista and would connect the hd as an external drive. I remember back in the day it was something like format c: /s?????
-The copy of Win7 is an ISO image. If I burn that to a disc and tell the PC to boot from it that should be it right?

tia

Boot from disc, erase the partition on the HDD when you are booting from disk, install windows after creating new partition. You'll figure it out. BTW, I haven't done this in a while so I may not be 100% accurate

No need to erase partition before installing. Just pop in the disc, it will prompt you at some point where you want to install winblows and will format or create partition at that time...

BTW, I haven't done this in a while so I may not be 100% accurate

I thought Spark was a robot from the old movie and I kind of remember seeing him telling some engineer showing the equation for a clear metal that the guy would event years later - porschetr

Thanks, I did just that. Hard drive had 3 partitions on it. One I deleted, the other couldn't install on it due to insufficient space and the third I just formatted it and installed. Everything went smoothly \:\)
