my dads plate on his bimmer is 98888888 and chinese people try to buy it off of him all the time. the other day i was talking to him while he was driving on speaker and some chinese guy in a porsche pulls up next to him and offers $1k for his plate. i was like wtf!
Should've taken the money and run - only for them to realize they can't register it on their car once they bought them.
