...when they don't understand the full scope and implications of certain decisions?
So we have a poll on whether or not the Gardiner should be torn down/repurposed/whatever. The poll is *right* on erroneous opinions of the public who don’t understand the costs/traffic/developmental implications just like the city officials don’t.
Hey I will just go and ask a random bum on how to issue an IPO on the nasdaq on the latest tech start up because of his insight, if I get the collective opinion of a bunch of bums then I have a data set that’s obviously worth something.
W.T.F
Of everyone surveyed 5% answered with "dont know" which gives me hope for humanity.

Yup, tear it down, watch traffic crawl, this is what the people who live in the condos and downtown proper want. This has been Toronto's plan all along though, they budgeted money all along and never spent it http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/millions-for-gardiner-expressway-repairs-never-spent-1.1168644
Then they can say its too expensive to fix, so tear it down. People think that they will have a waterfront like Chicago without the Gardiner, but instead, its a wall of ugly condos.

It is absolutely insane to tear it down, I don't understand how this is an option? There would be no way you could get around the downtown core with a car. Forget car, how do these people think all their overpriced groceries and stores get restocked? A rickshaw? Trucks bring it in, how are they going to get into the city. It would be a 24 hour traffic jam

Tear it down, put the highway underground like Boston big dig project. oh wait, most of the $$ is being spent on worthless shit so that'd never ever happen.
Boston was a Fucking disaster of a project. Shit cost them over 14b if I remember right and took an extra decade to complete. Yeah great management right durr

Yep 14b and a long ass time to complete - but look how it turned out today. Unless you have any better ideas?

only benefit i can see from tearing it down would be that the city won't have to pay to maintain a POS raised highway that keeps falling apart. half the shit is closed 99% of the time anyway. every way you look at it, it's a clusterfuck of traffic no matter what.
so happy i don't have to commuite past that thing anymore.

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2015/04/...study-says.html
They will replace it with some BS like they did east of the DVP where traffic just crawls

Short sighted as usual -- only think of the immediate cost and not the "costs" that will associated with the slow down.
Add three minutes to projected commutes from south Etobicoke, Don Mills and Victoria Park and Finch Ave., and five minutes for commuters coming from Victoria Park and Kingston Rd. (Those times are on top of the extra five minutes increased traffic would, by 2031, add to the current trips.).
I hardly doubt this - it's probably more like 30 min. when the build up saturates. these projections are total bullshit; wanna see how bad it is - shut it down on tuesday to thursday for 1 week and it'll give a good feel of how bad traffic gets.
so glad i stay north of hwy. 7 on weekends so i don't have to deal w/ this b.s.

I feel bad for anyone that uses the Gardiner on their daily commute.

But it's developers who are recommending tearing it down. They came up with the plan that is now getting pushed. They are salivating at the profits from fucking up that area like the rest of the waterfront.
I had to drive to Yonge and Sheppard today, what a clusterfuck for traffic, because of "development".

I bet they could rebuild it quicker and for way less cost. ... And have it fall apart in 1/2 the time as the current one.

I hope they tear it down so I can sit back and laugh at the clusterfuck that would occur since I live uptown and already refuse to go downtown because of shitbtraffic and no parking
