When is it a good time to dethatch the lawn, fertilize, and overseed or weed n feed?

My lawn is a cluster fuck, I had a major grubs infestation despite of buying grub ex. I plan on going nuts with the overseeding to regrow the grass.

Also as a tip you can seed your grass in the fall before the winter time and it helps for next season (or so I'm told)

Yup, this works - esp. w/ that scott's turf builder stuff; the grass is now nice and thick and relatively weed free *knock on wood*

Too bad i missed the winter this past fall -- will try to get it done this weekend as it's getting warm

100% By the time the seed has decent roots to really grow it's July and the sun/heat kills all the new seeds and your left with wasted money

Risky grass seed if memory serves me correct: linky here to home hardware

Fertilizer is called: Magic Carpet! <<< no joke shit works wonders.

Where to buy this fertilizer:
Bolton, Ontario – Head Office
Box 370, 8112 King Road West
Bolton, Ontario, L7E 5T3
Phone 905-857-2000
1-800-268-4425

Or you can always buy it off kijiji for a few bucks more, but save yourself the drive.

Anyone familiar with the correct procedure for pruning maple trees and cedar hedges?

I've read up some online and there seems to be so much misinformation and a lot of die hard arborist types saying that if a professional doesn't do it the world will fall apart. I am certain that removing a branch here and there isn't rocket science, but I would like for the the tree to heal correctly.

Any tips?

i read up on it a couple year ago...just ended up calling co. to do it, younger guys/smaller co so they were way cheaper than the 'big boy' companies. job was fine, tree died the next season anyways \:\( fuck. beauty of a tree too. stupid birch beetle or whatever it was. ugh.

anyways, there's a basic technique to cutting, both where (ie. close to the "t" of the branch you're gonna chop off and also "supposedly" the angle can make a difference (meh just make sure it's straight and clean). i beleive there's also a special coating you can quickly dap/paint onto the end of a fresh cut so no insects can burrow in.

Your cheapest bet is to get a load dumped on your driveway. I looked around last year and the bags would not come close to the price of a yard or 2 dumped. Its even cheaper if you have a trailer and pick it up yourself.

Yup, a yard dumped here is $49, a bag is $119 plus $5 deposit for the bag itself. That's a no brainier.

Eco Lawn from Home Hardware. The area so reseeded with this stuff look better then the rest of my lawn lol.
http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/index....rass+seed&Num=0

Kijiji guy did a dethatch, aerate and cut the grass for $150. I've got a decent sized corner lot so there's no way I was gonna dethatch all that by hand.

Now I just wish the weather would cooperate. We need some rain bad.
