I wasn't aware there was a raging debate over this topic. Anyway, the article is particularly funny to me because the main runner they interviewed was Avery Collins a 22 year old "professional ultramarathoner" who moved to Steamboat Springs last fall. I still haven't met the kid but he won a handful of races I've never heard of before http://ultrasignup.com/results_participant.aspx?fname=Avery&lname=Collins And apparently works at Sports Authority according to people who've asked me "hey man, have you met that new guy Avery?" He DNF'd at Run Rabbit Run in September and I first heard of him when the local paper ran an article on him for winning Cloudsplitter 100 mile (Kentucky's first 100 mile race) http://www.steamboattoday.com/news/2014/oct/07/steamboat-runner-wins-100-mile-race/ CN: I enjoy the sport being a little off the beaten path but I still cringe when I see articles like this. I feel especially bad for the Rob Krars and Ian Sharmans of the sport who strive to be taken seriously and then get undermined by 22 year old "professional" stoners _________________________

I was always baffled by the dudes I rode with who would hit the 1-hitter while on a ride break in the middle of the woods. They even call Avery out with "22 year old 'professional' runner" references. Twice $\:\\|$ He just won Sean O'Brien 50 miler last weekend. Which sounds super impressive (and sure, it is) until you realize they added a 100K option this year and all the competitive runners did that instead. His winning time of 7:35 was 72 minutes slower than last year's winner and would've been good for 10th place. That seems to be his MO. Go dominate at races without much competition (2nd place at Sean O Brien was 45 minutes later) _________________________
