im fucking with you.

get some drywall knives, fish sticks, some cable, and start exploring your house and see what routes are best to get to your devices.

You are making it sound WAY easier than it actually is, it's a huge PITA to run wires especially for a noob.

Best case scenario of furball's wire runs:

lal, if you take your time and actually think about the routes then it is easy.
its your house after all, so you dont have to put a deadline on yourself. take your time and do it right.

not unless your neighbour is putting one up and you need to have it first with obviously better components \:\/

anything is possible, but if you don't know framing methods and have experience at looking how a house is setup pre drywall stage it can be a daunting task sometimes.

Last week I was able to run a wire for a keypad. The whole alarm system was wireless, except the keypad needed a plug in power supply or the batteries would only last a week. Basement was fully finished so I only had a 12X12 access panel in the basement to work with. Some creativity, 4-8 foot long fiberglass rods and 4 hours later I was able to get a wire from the electrical panel without making a single hole in drywall. I also went through the sink cabinet in the washroom behind \:\)

It definitely can be a daunting task if you have never done it before.

typical rfd mentaility

what are you going to do with 12 cameras around your house. The only plus side is you can install 4 and replace 4 each year so you will last at least 3 years

I think Lorex is 1 yr warranty.
Where as you can get better systems with 2 or even 3 years.

You get what you pay for right?

ive installed a 4 IPcam FLIR at a house, cameras are 3.6mm but if placed right can cover what you need.
you'll need back boxes to keep your cables in, unless you want to hide them in the wall/brick.

rob, you cant walk in there and just buy it.
need an account setup. you can just buy it through loudsubz or myself and pay us back.

I have a bunch of PoE IP cameras and am wondering what's a good 16 channel NVR that can record to the cloud? The cameras support ONVIF.

while we are on the topic.

my neighbour across from me in my backyard just installed a camera and it looks like its pointing at their deck/sliding door but it looks like it's pointing at my house as well.

so, any ideas how i can 'block' the camera viewing direction of my house?

No way to block unless you install some super tall divider or something. If you want to get crafty go over in the night with a portable viewfinder and remove the camera connection and plug it in your viewfinder and see what it's really looking at lol

You don't want t to record to the Cloud as your main means of recording. You want to send a backup every day or do a secondary stream of 1fps as a backup. Many nvr have the option to backup. You would have to look into some cloud recording storage servers that offer remote cloud storage. I know of one that's $10 a month for 2 week storage retention

What's the service?

What NVR for ~ 13 POE HIKVISION cameras? Synology? Some of the NVR has 4 ports? So do I get a 16 port POE switch and connect it to one of the 4 ports in the NVR?

this is one

http://www.totalsecure.ca/Offsiteportal.aspx

As long as the IP camera has more than 1 stream it should be supported as one of the streams is set to a low FPS and set to upload to the remote site.

http://www2.ltsecurityinc.com/en_us/product/1114.html

correct

just connect one of the ports on the switch to the nvr and connect all the cameras onto the poe ports. Make sure you have 1 uplink port to connect to your router for internet access too

another alternative is the blue iris software on a dedicated windows pc
