And here we go again.

Most humans likely can't even do one pullup. Bank it.

Wishful thinking on my part I guess...

wide makes my marginal left rotator cuff pissed. I go about six inches overall wider than my shoulders.

Shoulder width is the basic pull up that most people can do unless you are severely out of shape. The wider your grip the harder the pull up.

So how are people over-estimating based on that. OP didn't ask how many wide arm pullups we could do. Ask a million people to do a pull-up and 99% of them are going to go with whatever feels natural, which Id imagine is somewhere around shoulder width.

The photo OP posted is bit more than shoulder width. I am willing to bet that 80% of the people here will not be able to do a single pull up at that grip. Then again this is clubsi and everyone has wings like Arnold.

Another skill I could never get. Starting at the top position I could lower myself about 3/4 of the way down and then just lose it. Look at the backs and shoulders of male gymnasts. Do yours look like that? No? Mine neither.

edit: at this being moved to the fitness forum. Got to make room on the first page for posts that haven't been updated for over an hour.

Some illegal mod who can't do pullups hid this thread over here. It certainly has nothing to do with fitness!

I go super wide, all the way down and all the way up and keep the legs straight and I can do about 15 on the first set.

There's no way some of the people in this thread get anywhere close to what they are claiming if they follow proper form.

I don't think anybody was suggesting that picture represented anything other than a generic pullup.

I can do 20, just actually had a comp at my gym, dead hang each time.

I'm also a midget, 5'6 145 so I know they're not as hard for me as bigger guys.

I assume only a few people in here actually have a clue what they're talking about.

Here's 50...and hes doing them wrong
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QXqWWWwVPE

78 and still not right
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB7L7XcDArs

Not that they aren't strong or jacked.

Bottom line...I SERIOUSLY question anyone saying 50.

at the crossfit games 2011 i went to, the marines had a booth where you could walk up and do pullups. if you got 30 you got some decent prize, if you got 20 you got a pen. i got the pen. i'm not sure anyone that day got 30

The black guy isn't that bad....at first.

About a year ago I tried "hollow" pullups.
http://www.menshealth.com/fitness/better-pullups

They are a bitch, but awesome.

I fucked up years ago. I would do pullups with straps. That was a mistake. My grip is still weak, but improving.

for one set i could probably squeeze out 12-13, but my ass is weighing 237 now... lol

and that's more of a neutral grip... with my shoulder injury, wide grip pulls ain't happening...

I can do 20, but only with a neutral grip.

With a wide grip, I can only get 12-15. I don't do wide grip anymore, though... hurts the fuck out of my elbows.

Good, this thread made its way out of OT so now I can add my input.

21 wide-grip pull-ups is my best at 5'8" 165lbs. Just did this yesterday actually.

Under-grip and shoulder width I can pop off 25-ish? I haven't done them in months though.

On 15 chins.

ALL THE WAY DOWN AND BACK ABOVE THE BAR.

I'll give it a shot on Friday at the gym. \:\)

That's what I think I can do, so we'll see. I have still been lifting all year, since January, 4x per week. I think I've missed maybe 6 workouts all year?

That's super. Have you actually been doing pullups?

If no, you will be sub-10. Bank it.

just did a max set, palms away grip, got 10x. rested for about a second at the bottom of each hang, feet off ground. ive done pullups probably 4 or 5 times in the past 2 years. gonna hurt tomorrow..

So I was wrong...I did 10 chin-ups this morning.

Used to be easier when I weighed like 165lbs...not I'm 193.

I still wonder if you're doing proper chins.

Not hating too much here, but you've never seemed very strong. More skinny fat and weak. Unless something has changed.
