No, that would kill me. That's enough climbing over the course of 160 miles to be miserable for me. I guy I ride with did a solo double century a couple of months ago. Dawn to dusk situation. Again--not for me.

I'll look forward to your postgame.

That average speed over that distance is astonishing. God damn, that's impressive.

Meanwhile, I did a piddly 21 miles today.

Made it to that local cyclocross park yesterday. The "new" CX beater worked great, save for being so heavy. The park is a big trail loop around a city park that goes through woods and across some grass sections. It also has three somewhat steep, gnarly roll-ins that are fun as hell. It's a 'cross course that stays put instead of getting broken down. A lap is about 10 minutes or so. I put in an hour and 20 there yesterday.

A few pics:
This is way steeper than it appears in the photo

Big run-up

Another big drop that doesn't translate to photos well. It curves off to the right and there's a second little drop after that.

i had a headwind from mile 40-85, then at 98 miles i had a cat 3 climb, which i got 2nd on it strava, i shoulda went a little harder lol, then i had a awesome 50 mile tailwind home. that picked my avg up from 16.2-16.8. all solo. enough of those for a LONG time lol

your cx park looks fun! nice they dont tear it down...be nice to have something like that around here

A 50 mile tailwind would be the only think that would keep me alive at that point. I can't say I could deal with 45 miles of headwind and THEN a cat 3 climb. FFFUUUU

Yeah, the park is cool as fuck. A couple of locals got permission from the town to do trail maintenance and develop it into what it is. Apparently, the town is very happy about so many cyclists from all over the place coming to use it.

All I know is, I'll be there in the woods if it isn't too muddy vs. being on the trainer. I don't foresee much of an issue being in there in 32 degree weather. The anerobic aspect of it (while miserable) can only make me faster overall.

Finally figured out the rear shifting on my cross beater. I had to bend the derailleur hanger quite a bit farther out than I'd think was reasonable. I had to do the same thing with my '85 Trek. Must be a thing with the old 126mm spacing being spread to 130mm.

Supposed to get oddly chilly for this time of year--38 degrees (wut dat Arctic Blast do). I hope to hit the cross park on Saturday.

Looks like I'll be getting on the trainer a bit sooner than I initially intended.

40mi on the road tonight... the high temp being 30F. That horrible wind as well that you'd try to hammer it to warm up only to find it made you get colder, so you just suffered the entire time.

funny how that on the mtb would feel great

Bless your soul. I peter out on pavement at about 38 degrees (with no wind).

The nice thing about that cross park is that it's right next to a paved bike path. I can get all sweaty riding in the woods and cool off by spinning for a mile in the path. Works great. I'm thinking I can do 30-32F in the CX park.

today - didn't double up - good idea, had ss in pit which was "good" since I flatted the rear out in first lap

pretty sure avg about a 30-50 cadence the rest of the race.. HORRID conditions for SS and was geared waaaay way too tall for this

entire course was this, the firmest spots being the sand pit and the road at start/finish

Yeah, that looks miserable/impassable on a geared bike--nevermind on a SS. I can't say I could get through that on an MTB, nevermind on a CX biek with 32C's on it.

I had 3 separate low-speed bails at the CX park yesterday. 2 sand-related washouts and one wet grass washout. The grass one tweaked my hip pretty nicely, but it's good today (put in an easy 20 miles with a friend on this lovely 58 degree day today). Broke a spoke on a slow, too-high-geared climb, too (dat torque)

Talk of a CX race at the park on 1/11. Hmmm...

SWEET. Best of luck with it.

I crossed 3200 miles last week. Probably not much on the road for the remainder of the year. I'll hit the CX park when it's not raining and I'll do the roads above 38 or so. I've still avoided the trainer successfully doe

Walpole is all of 45 minutes from me. I've worked in Dedham and Norwood, which are both stones throws from Walpole.

Depending on what life throws at me, I'd love to check it out. You'll have to keep me posted on that one. \:\)

Local CX park got some press today:

I'll be there on Saturday, as I was last Saturday
