So I have a nat gas fireplace that came with the house... It works. Sweet.

I did some research, and to get the most out of the heat distribution, you can buy blower fans for $100+ which suck in air from the bottom, push it through the back, and forces the air out the top vents (think of a 'U' shape) ...

Also underneath the fireplace is a 2-pronged outlet, which I assume is how you plug in the blower... I plugged in a USB cube, and nada. No power...

Is this thing supposed to be plugged in?! From random googling it should have power... \:\(

I was hoping to cheat with a ghetto 5V USB fan to see if that'd help...

Anyone install a blower fan to their NG fireplace? Is it worth the cost vs heat distribution?

I'll take a pic when I get home.

it definitely helps, but it's possibly the power bar was never wired up if a blower wasn't installed in the first place

or, the other possibility is that the power bar doesn't actually get power until flipped on by a thermoswitch

try running the fireplace for a bit and then check to see if the bar gets power?

better yet don't listen to me and get someone who actually knows fireplaces lol

Was the fireplace a new installation while the house was being built or was it retrofit into an old home that had a wood burning fire place? If it was part of a new build, chances are there is a switch located on the wall to power that 2 prong receptacle, usually it's next to the switch for the ignitor. If it was retrofit there may not be any power ran.

I just had a NG fireplace with a blower fan installed and it had to be plugged into a 120v normal recepticle.
