Is that a matrix? I drove one of those to Miami - versitile cars.
Mustang looks good - I think I see silver mesh in the grill - I would black that out.

Coils have been raised and the snow tires put on.. I gotta replace the rear axle bushings now, they are clunking like mad!

anyone need a beater? i wanna sell my wifes 2007 SX4 sport JLX 4wd (with low range!), 5spd manual, all power options, i think it has about 75,000km on it. She has owned it from new all maintance up to date, new front brakes, it has been battered around, has dents, scratches, broken antenna and has had the rear bumper replaced. it has had zero issues, like nothing at all go wrong. Super reliable. Comes with new general altimaxx winters on spare rims, and new Continetals on stock wheels. i was thinking like 5-6k

Beater? What beater? The only person on the board who legitimately has claim to a beater is ZC911 why is that?

Winter beater not found. Snow tires and common sense prevail. Deep snow can be trouble though.

I still have to buy winters and get the car krowned.
I'll take the front lip off in a month.
Edit - crap I need an alignment too because I've been screwing with the suspension so much lately as well.

I always like Hankooks. Good in snow but better yet good in dry and doesn't feel "squishy" (that you'll be driving in most of the time)

^ snow tires so soon? i probably won't get mine on for another 2-3 weeks.
ya a few reasons why I swapped already...even tho my summer tires are all seasons anyway. Main reason I didn't want to be doing it in zero degree weather (or close to it), second is the temp is mostly single digits when I'm on the road (early morn, late afternoon/eve) so its snow tire weather anyway. Third I got a big ass nail in one of my summer tires. It wasn't leaking yet but didn't want to risk having the temp drop and it become a problem and/or find myself with a flat.
This way at least i'm all set and done.....earliest Saturday Krown appt thats close by my house is nov 22 so after that point i'll be full winter mode.

Blizzaks are one of the best (excluding Nokians).. It's too bad they're so fucking soft and wear out quick.

Even studless, Nokians are crazy when it comes to grip and tread life, I really don't know how they do it to be honest.

i'd have to agree actually...BUT blizzaks when new are amazing and dont think alti's can match those even new. +1 for the blizz wearing out quicker tho and performance does drop off, but still decent. tho nokians > all above.
im impressed with hankook winters (both variations) for the money nowadays as well.

I'm running Firestone Winterforce on the S10, they are pretty good. No complaints so far, also running them on the wagon this year.

I'm still looking around. Soooo much solid competition in the market segment I'm looking in. I like pa4's, and sottozero3 /based on research.

I just bought those, with carbide steel studs. I'll be interested to see how good they are with all the cold temps and ice here in Saskatchewan.

WS80's will be kickass man, you'll like them. Jeffo holy cow - how much? lol ballin'. on my STI i think i had a similar size but in 18" can't wait to try these 'all weather' optimo 4S on the R, see if they're bullshit or actually workout ok in the snow.
About 1100 all in. They will last awhile and I look forward to my first winter with good snows + awd

are the w310 the successor of the ice bears w300? I had them on the rsx and really hated them. found them slippery and no traction in deep snow. I hope they really improved them.

Yup they're the new ones. Never had issues with the 300s though I had them on the IS350. I don't drive though a lot of deep snow though

you know jeff is ballin when i want to buy his winter wheels for my summer wheels
Lol it's the opposite man cheaper to just use what I already have. I wouldn't want steelies so buying a set of cheap wheels is more expensive.

They are both comparable. Some sets are identical in price ands will swing every so slightly either way between the two.
I wouldnt be surprised if they discussed pricing together.

i called tires 23 for a set of 235/75/17 blizzaks and they wanted $90 more than simplytires
EDIT no they are not , they add tax and the enviro fee, tires23 still cheaper!!

Did you have new studless ice and snow blizzaks with the dual tread compound? I had the LM80 performance ones and they were shit on the ice. The WS70s were great on the ice, but only before wearing throug the first 50% lm is a performance winter. what you lose in ice performance you gain in dry handling and feedback.
where the ws70 will be mushy and have worse dry performance. Its a compromise for any tire.

Never had a balance problem from tires23, and I think it's been 4 sets of tires. Going with these guys anyway. The price ended up being the same as tires23, and they are close by so we will see!

Good experience with the guys at simply tire. Got my blizzaks on a spare set of jeep factory rims and ordered a set of rims/tires for my moms Ford Edge

BTW buying Kumho KW27s. Any experience? They are cheap...and I need to buy 18s. So I'm being as frugal as possible with my tire selection.

Perforation warranty is ridiculous - you know how rusty a car has the be to rust a hole in it? Those are Mazda problems man.
I want the underside and all of the bolts and nuts to be protected. Makes it way easier to work on. Also I plan on keeping this one for awhile and add a sports car in the future or pass along to gf unit as her daily.
It's also only 100 bucks.

stretched tires rougher ride adding extra kms for no reason lower to ground
More benefits to going wider (since 235 is a weird size)
Edit - it will also look stupid being so small in the wheel wells (radius). The benefits to being a few mm narrow is minimal in the type of snow we drive in especially since I have awd

car looks much ebtter with the birghter wheels, but who cares, it's winter haha.
I swapped winter this weekend as well, on my wifes car one lug nut was cross threaded, DOH, it only came half way loose then stopped. Couldnt do anything to get it off. Had to bust of the sawzall and get in there to cut the lug nut Stupid Suzuki, you cant change a lug nut without pressing out the hub!! Decided it was finally time to buy a press, got a hydrlic 12 ton, pressed out the hub, bearing toasted $189 locally for the bearing or $50 from Rockauto!! What the hell, now the car sits waiting for the fedex man

Michelin Xi3's sidewalls so squishy wtf... makes the car feel so twitchy
Maybe some more PSI will help... I usually run my tires at 32 PSI.

You can always air down if the conditions call for it, airing up isn't as easy when you're in sloppy conditions I run my winters at 35psi, if it's bad out I'll air them down to 30psi or so.

Bring it yoooo! Are those alzors? I got a set of alzors too for winter. Are those 17s? Euphoric: I agree with you. I'd run 225 for winter too (infact, that's what I am buying). My sumemrs are 255 fwiw. I don't see any reason to run a wider tire. Winters are squirmy as it is. Putting a narrower tire on a wider rim will make it less squirmy. Plus, it's not the issue of forward traction in the snow (awd arguement). It's about steering and braking. Having a narrower tire in snow makes the car more responsive. A wider tire tends to ride atop the snow more vs slice through it. Rally cars are all about braking and cornering. They run bicycle tires Furball - I'd run higher pressure if it was dry. In low traction conditions, lower psi is preferred. But if you're dealing with squirm...uh yeah, 32 is low. I run 36psi in the summer time.
You guys are hilarious - it's a 10mm difference from stock and the bigger size that everyone with a GS runs is 10mm wider than stock. Further to that you're losing comfort and adding unnecessary kms on your car (even if it's minimal) - for what? That big rally I would be driving from my house to work on the 6 days I'll actually be driving on uncleared roads?
With wheel sizes you never go smaller than stock circumference on a daily with low profile tires if you have to choose - it rides worse. I'm on 19's none of these 14 or 15 inch doughnuts deals. You know how small the sidewall is as it sits?
I get the principles of a narrower tire in snow but it won't make a measurable amount of difference here vs the benefits of a taller sidewall.

Do you even rally broooooo????
This is pretty much inline with 4age's car reviews, always review car performance/handling/everything under most extreme conditions which account for .0000000000000000000001% of driving and then use that as a blanket statement to make a point. A good review should be that AND REAL LIFE APPLICATION/livability!!! XD XD XD
BRB rally.

I agree with the principles and I also agree to go with the narrowest tire you can (but within the oem height specs). But I'm with you real world application - if I had non oem wheels sure buy a narrower wheel and get a tire that fits the height specs.
Also we drive in mostly non snowy cold conditions for about 5 months of the year - screw making the car look terrible for so long ;).
It's like saying I could get better acceleration with super low profile tires and 17s (if they fit the brakes) - sure but everything else would suck.
I'm also not raising my car up - you basically have to take the suspension apart to do that and get another alignment - no way Jose.

yep i agree.. narrower is good but only to a point. it's not a massive difference that you will feel in city driving
4age: these are andros from tire rack.. audi replica wheels 17x7.5
my stock tire size is 255/35/19
winters are 215/50/17, bit narrower and also half an inch shorter in terms of nominal height

Yes I know wheel sizes, offsets and tire sizes extremely well - I've probably had more wheels, tires and done research than most if not all people here.
Going 225 from 235 all else the same will be a 1 inch difference in circumference approx as well a 1.2% differenc (smaller meaning I will put on an extra 1% in kms).
Going to a 45 series tire at 225 makes it 2.2% larger which is too big from stock.
Going to a 245 40 from the stock 235 is only 1.2% larger. So I have to choose larger or smaller for the minimal difference - I choose 1 percent larger.

lel
1% extra km's over winter is essentially meaningless. On top of that it will balance out from your summer usage.
why not just run the stock 235 size?

255 to 215. Petter Solberg over hurrr haha nah, there is method to my madness tried to use the best wheel+tire size that will fit the largest number of cars e.g. bigger 26" cars like passat, a4, a5, a6 and at the same time also fit 25" cars like a3, jetta, golf, etc had to do lots of measuring and maths.. but i think (hope) it will work overall. versatility brah are you planning on switching a lot of cars over the ocurse of their life?
did you get a discounted price since it was a potentially more common size?

Is it even 1%, I'd think it's less /haven't done teh mathz
Even at 1%, if you drive a lot (10k on winters) that's only 100km more a year. moot point

But it is a factor on top of everything else I stated. Do you notice the difference in sidewall comfort? Yes.
Hey you put whatever you want on your cars. I'll keep doing it my way - seems to work.

true but it seems the tires you went with actually come in the stock size.
obviously do whatever you want. Run 24" donks I dun care. Just trying to understand why you would bother with a wider winter.
Comfort benefit with availability - while the other tires may come in that size its always a wait because nobody uses them for anything. Also this matches exactly with my summer wheel size.
24 inches is for next summer man

spd-dmn, images below of back of wheel. these are 18x8 alzor style 349.
JWL certified for 815kg. I was surprised it got such a rating given that it's such an inexpensive wheel. Then I weighed it and I found out why...they are 30lbs XD XD XD
they also make oem reps. might be the same manufacturer. shrug

He probably doesn't force you to back-in either for 'safety' reasons like your shit hole of an office Jeff's office parking lot is nicely set up!! That is some mega wally shit right there. My first job out of school was the same thing, back into spots, etc, safety safety safety. Bud we are not in the field, we don't need a health and safety committee walking around checking for dangerous office conditions. WOW YOU HAVE A BOX WITHIN 12 INCHES FROM YOUR CHAIR, MOVE IT RIGHT NOW /goes to write you up formally. wow amaze such safety please stfu I remember those clowns would have monthly meetings that would go on for over an hour every month, over HEALTH AND SAFETY IN AN OFFICE? Anyway I ended up joining to waste half of my fridays once a month
lol dude. i hear ya but because i work in big oil, everything is all based on what is done out in the field and it trickles down.
we have a STRICT no booze policy. if i have a beer at lunch, i'm actually not allowed to go back to work. many times, i've wanted to have a beer at lunch just so i don't have to return to work.

I suppose I can come up with something, but officially, how is backing in safer? the thinking is, in the event of an emergency and everyone is trying to get the fuck out of dodge, you can just pull out and get outta there, and you won't run over anyone else when you're trying to back out.
Not only that but I think it takes like less than half the time to evacuate a parking lot of cars that are backed in versus mixed parking.

Calling for possible snow over the next little bit. /obviously will melt when it hits the ground. But still . ideally 3 sets of wheels and tires would be best Because its getting too cold for those all out performance summers. But Im not exactly ready to slap winters on yet.
if i can spare the space for that many tires.....

S is hibernating as of last week.
Wifey's SUV is getting her winters on now since I just washed her summer wheels, might as well get them off and bagged when they are clean and dry. (plus I have spare cycles now to get it done).
My daily beater. Probably won't do it for another couple of weeks. Gotta re-bleed the brakes (sensors / service reminder is complaining) and have the front pads inspected. Might as well do them at the same time.

I was on my way to tire23 and there was an arsehole driving a red e36 m3 tailgating me on 403/eastgate parkway off ramp. i give him a derp brake check and purposely slowed down. I wonder if that's Euphoric? I mean I did see the guy snap a pic of my license plate. Nonetheless, I returned the favor and snapped a phoot back of his plate not sure what that'd accomplish? Most likely him as he is driving god'a chariot while the wagon is in for maintenance. Post up the pic I will know right away
he did pull into the bmw dealer off of dixie road.
pic coming up...

Got fed up of simply this week, tried to get a hold of someone for install/balance to no avail. Usually don't pick up the phone, I understand they are busy, but they just lost a customer.
Steelcase had the same tires for $1/tire more, going there. Saves me the hassle of driving in that construction shithole and it will get done during my lunch.

I did email him, he did answer on the price, but i wanted to setup a time and make sure i am not stuck there waiting like in the past even though i set a time...i would much rather have that convo over the phone and not on email. Anyway, i am actually glad i found a place closer to home. I don't want to drive there tbh.

Was going to buy the BMW douche cover but this one was on sale for less money and it is microfibre on the underside. So nice and soft
nice, risky can use it as a roof tarp as soon as his roof shingles give out

Hator let me know how that cover holds up and if it lets dust get through. I have the other crappy tire cover and my car gets dusty under the cover...my car is covered in an underground parking lot at work doe and there is a ton of dust in those.

This isn't a fitted cover, but it might as well be. I bought the one for medium sized cars and it barely fit due to the width of the car I guess? It's really snug around the fenders/quarters and was just long enough. Can't pull the cover past the tail pipes to give you an idea...
How tight is your cover? Being in an underground garage I assume there is lots of traffic too right? If the cover isn't snug that's probably why you get dust under the cover, which is shit because you risk scratching the paint when taking it off.

Just installed the winters on the WRX last weekend, X3 will be this weekend (got a free set of winters and OEM rims from an uncle, woot!).
BTW, shameless for sale plug in here, but I have a set of 245/45/19 Dunlop WinterMaxx for sale, used only for 5 months!

If those were 40 series I would have shit my pants as I just bought new tires in that size.

Any feedback yet SDC2R? I would consider something like that in the future if they're still good in the snow.... and if they make a 155/80/13 size

they're very smooth given current conditions, way better feedback than a full winter and much less vibration thru the wheel feedback. grip is great for what they are.
I'll wait for your full report after a big snow storm to see how it performs vs. winter tires.

I've been deceived pretty much all my fucking existence of the EL that the car doesn't have enough 'sound proofing'... (It ain't no luxo-level soundproof, but it'll do...)
Riding on the fucking Michelin Xi3's I can actually HEAR my passenger without speaking Asian decibels at highway speeds...
Fucking BFG Advantage T/A all seasons and anything prior to that were loud... I had no idea..........

Now to start hunting for decent (Touring?) All-Seasons for spring...

Brought out the winter beater today Still on my summers lol. Wasn't gonna chance it this year lol I always wait too long and it snows before I get them on. Plus I had to pull on of mine down because a customer wanted to see the colour of the wheels before he bought a set, they were the only ones I had around lol. Figured I already had them down may as well throw them on. i like this car XD Violent, u work at a tire shop?
Thanks Hyundai dealership actually.

I did winter tires swap on 5 cars this past Saturday. The summer car needs a car wash and it's going to sleep. Took off the insurance as of today. Winter Beater daily the next few months will suck Can't wait till Spring 2015
Next few months? It's half a year for me Won't be putting the car back on the road till May 1'2015

That's amazing, let's assume HST paid on car is approx $5,200 (regardless if you traded in another car for it offset, the HST was paid at one point) + $5,000 depreciation hit over 5 years (assuming he owns it that much and I am being conservative, chances are it will be higher), plus insurance of $600/year @ 5 years = $3,000 plus gas at 1,500 km @ 15L/100km @ $1.50/L for 5 years = $1,687, + sparco car cover $160 + HST = $181
So roughly $2/km driven or $3k per summer to own this ornament.

I'd add in $0.47/km for gas and maintenance Gas was covered, maintenance isn't because he isn't going to do any, he will sell it before the big service comes up Sell it for what though?

Haven't taken my winter mats out since 2012 Man, I used to go crazy and vinyl wrapped the whole floor every winter.
Your car is almost 20 years old and it has treated you quite well.

Yeah, Im getting my tire sets through Simply. Their prices during the groupbuys are about $50 cheaper then 23. Not a huge amount though.
That being said, 23 sell the WT mats for $150 cash tax/freight all-in.

There she is, wrapped in Michelin PSS ready for winter. No heated steering, Wayne, but the 328i next to it does.

So you would need to get out of the car to activate it? If so PITA!!! .... so you want to trap yourself in your parking spot????
How? Are you that stupid to activate remotely while in the spot???

Basically you're bitching about the scenario of coming home and finding your neighbour's car is at ground level and so you'd have to get out, press the button then he can park his car on the bottom part of the lift?
I'd consider this no different than coming home and finding a car blocking your driveway and you'd have to go inside, get the keys, move it out of the way so you can put your car into the garage.
Not ideal, but this beats circling down several floors to get to your spot.

Had all 6 injectors replaced last year (near tail end of CPO warranty) as it kept throwing CEL.
Now I've had 2 power loss warnings in the last 3 days. (restarting the car's fine)
Probably keep this for 1 more year then get a different beater (even though I love the power and bells and whistles in this thing) :p

No man, no $$$ for new car. Dat middle class life, no new milk How reliable has it been? Curious as to how the diesels fare. Diesel will last longer than your typical gas engine if you maintain it properly. I don't need a SUV so once VW fixes their bullshit TDI scandal, I want to jump in to a Golf Wagon TDI.
I build a 328d on BMW.ca, it came out more than a X3 Diesel. WTF BMW?

Probably keep this for 1 more year then get a different beater (even though I love the power and bells and whistles in this thing) :p I've had to replace an injector as well, due to water infiltration on the harness (stupid bmw design where cowling cracks and lets water in), then two other injectors were leaking. I've done the glow plugs and modules (only the module was bad), the DEF injector, and a map sensor. Combined with the EGR cooler cracking (replaced twice under warranty due to faulty design), I can't say its without its fair share of issues. All the known BMW issues have been addressed. I think there is only one that I have yet to experience, and that is either the DEF tank level sensor or heater. I have stayed on top of the maintenance, all fluids in the car have been changed recently (tranny, diffs, transfer case).
Good thing is the diesel still has a mechanical water pump, so no random dying of the electric water pump on all other models (like your beater), leaving you stranded. No HPFP to fail (gas model).

I had my EP from 2003 to 2015. Never bothered with rust proof, there was ZERO rust. Not even the usual Honda fender rust. Most EPs I've seen on the road seem to be in decent shape. The car was made in England so maybe they sourced better metal there. Not sure.
The Toyota won't be getting any special treatment. Just weekly washes in the winter (Petro seasons pass shared with neighbours).

Krowning definitely makes a noticible difference when working on the cars with seized bolts and generally in nicer looking condition underneath vs not. It's so cheap why not do it?

Yup. If it was a fancier car that was more of a toy to me vs a daily driver I wouldn't but it's a daily driver. I'm just not going to do it under the hood as that can get messy.

- I thought this was common knowledge already? yeah new cars...pretty much it's off the factory floor, parked outside in a huge lot by the rail ready to go, they sit on the rail cars for the trip, offloaded into another huge lot and sit until ready to ship to a dealer. the car then sits (most likely) outside a the dlr until sold. for acura's the usually sit a bit longer than honda's lol. the dlr just PDI's it, gases it up, washes it and it's delivered to you as such. they don't have time/money/manpower or care to 'detail' a car for you...as long as it's washed it's considered ready to go, they're busy as crap as it is i find. honda/acura paint already isn't the best from factory which doesn't help. regardless, most new cars will look 10x better after a good claybar and polish/wax...esp dark colours.
my car and that rdx weren't as bad as my friend's tlx. it sounded like i was dry sanding the paint while i was claying it lol I find acura's paint pretty good, same with bmw and benz even tho they all come with orange peel.

Huh, I love chemical guys stuff and eshine is only about 20 minutes from me. The only shitty thing about them is their store hours suck. They always give good 'cash' discounts so I hate having to order when I know it would be cheaper going into the store. But they're never open when I'm not working

Im totally serious I bought an old beige Camry as I knew someone who was selling one. Original owner, low kilometers and great condition. Price was too hard to pass up and I can use it as my "drive it in crappy weather if I buy a 3 season car" or "drive it and not give a fuck where I leave it car"
I get it this weekend as the owner is doing the safety and emissions etc.

I'm going to duct tape a speaker on the roof and blast Rough Riders Anthem wherever I go.

I'm not down the path to really lock it down as it is dependent on a few things but looking at a GT350, corvette C7 or a new gen Cayman S. Really not sure yet however I came across the car (Camry) and the deal is so good I might as well go for it and see if the other steps happen and if not I have a great car to sell, give to someone I know or use it.
I just found it funny as I got the most typical appliance car possible on the road including the amazing beige colour.

Just checked, August 16, 2006, so almost 10 years ago.
From March 13, 2006. There are million dollar houses now where all those trees once were
