First it was peanut butter and peanuts.
Today the kid comes home with a notice that seafood and some form of non peanut peanut butter (Wow butter) is banned.
They're going to ban cotton shirts soon. Fuck this.

This is probably more about the fucking stinky nasty fish all the Asians and Russians like to eat for lunch and not about allergies at all

There are some people that heat that shit up at work and the entire fucking floor smells of it. BAN THAT NASTY SHIT!

Might as well ban dairy too.
We should also put gopro cameras on them to make sure we see what they're doing... And ban all contact in play ground.

Let's also tell them they can wear turbans or dots on their foreheads. They should also just go online from home and be taught by their teachers there.

While we're at it, let's bend over for all religions and allow whomever to enter the country.
There has to be a line drawn for catering to things.

And choco, i never said anything about peanut butter (but don't get me started on that)

Many schools are citrus free these days.
Blame the weak ass kids with no immune system.

blame on the parents who strongly believe giving the kids vaccine shots causing autism.

Guess what?

Here's the link ...

it wasnt an issue back in our day...... the pussification to our kids continues.

See w/ all this push for religion-specific based school and afro-centric schools, maybe there should be an allergy-centric school in one which all kids w/ severe allergies can go and live in a sterile environment.

I understand that some kids are extremely and deathly allergic to certain things, but maybe it's a better idea to educated them on how to protect themselves from these things, rather than creating an artificially safe bubble. Expecting the world to bend over backwards for you is pretty naive.

Peanut is tough - even exposure through the air can kill me.

No amount of education can change that.

It's bad enough that I was working on someone in the back of the ambulance - he puked, he'd eaten Thai, and my throat started to swell closed.

So this was in the weekly school memo:

 Quote:

We would like our community to know that we have a member of our school who is allergic to all forms /
types of citrus. This pertains to all citrus fruit, for example, but not limited to, oranges, tangerines, lemons,
limes and grapefruit. Due to this severe concern, we are asking that students do not bring any citrus products
to school.
Students are not to bring citrus fruit/products/items containing citrus to school.

So are they implying there's ONE person that's allergic? (I probably wouldn't if they said "a smaller number of students and/or faculty is allergic..." )

For those in the medical field - how bad is citrus allergy? (peanut, i can understand / have seen how bad it can be). I honestly have not heard of this ever up until now.

I've never heard of a citrus allergy, not to say it doesn't exist.
The severity of the allergy depends on the person... but anaphylaxis is anaphylaxis. If a person has anaphylactic reactions to something, it'll be the same as anything else (rapid heart rate, drop in blood pressure, airway problems, vomiting...)
it's different from having a sensitivity to something (often painted as "allergic"). Anything that doesn't result in anaphylaxis is a sensitivity.

It should be mentioned that a citrus allergy, albeit legit, is far less common than peanut or shellfish... but equally as lethal if the patient has anaphylactic reactions to it.

Answer... EPIPEN

Can Epipens not be kept at the school? I'll admit I know very little about them, but aren't they all the same?

my kid has to carrying a waste pouch with her epipen, and keep another one in the office. i'm sure that's standard procedure for any kid with allergies. they may require a third one to be kept with their teacher.

spnx, i hear where you're coming from. but kids eat peanut butter for breakfast. and kids are slobs. they'll get that stuff on their fingers, their face, their clothes etc. someone severely allergic to it cannot possibly expect that it's not floating around somewhere at school. not saying we shouldn't try to make it safe. it's just naive to think that we have a completely controlled environment. in fact it's probably more dangerous to start letting our kids' guard down.

So there's a movement to have epipens in mall food courts.
If the school are going so far add to ban all this shit, then they should be taking up the responsibility to have epipens in all schools (one in the head office is fine.)

Epipens expire after 18 months.

You can't just put it on the kid and their parents. 4 The is right, there is trace everywhere and the bubble effect doesn't work

I haven't seen an allergy to citrus at the hospital. peanuts constantly, but not citrus. i'm sure someone out there has an allergy to it, just like the one random kid who shows up to your kids b-day party and says "i'm allergic to everything!"

A school in my neck of the woods banned dairy as well as all nuts.

I'd lose my shit.

What's left to feed kids at that point

Those allergies are both anaphylactic, meaning someone with a severe allergy to them can possibly die when exposed to them. My son has a dairy allergy. He's 4, and while he understands he can't share other kids' snacks and lunches an accident can happen. It's not banned in his school and we're not pushing for it to be but it still makes us quite paranoid.

Your kid can get through a day without dairy or nuts, trust me.
