For the past months I've had this cramp in my right calf that comes and goes quite often. It mainly starts when I start running or playing basketball. I drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and I stretch it before every workout. Ive tried eating bananas since I read it helps. Maybe im not eating enough of it?

The only other thing is that I had a rolled my ankle pretty bad last year and I don't have complete range of motion there. Any advice?

I few days ago I ran/jogged for 4miles and nothing. Towards the end it cramped a little but not like usual. Today 5min into playing ball it cramps bad.

Are you over hydrating? You can flush out the electrolytes with too much water.

Tried zinc and magnesium?

Keep stretching it and avoiding over-exertion. Resistance bands help. In the meantime, book an appointment with a specialist because there may be tendon or nerve damage that triggers the cramps.

I have not. Will give it a shot and see how it goes.

Specialist will be the final option hopefully.

My calves cramped when I started running and did too much too soon. Cut back and eased into it, as well as post-activity stretching and I haven't had issues since.

For me, cramping is a case of overexertion combined with not enough elecrolytes, but that applies to being on the bike for at least 65-70 miles in hot weather before it starts happening.

I cramped like a mother after I added running into my workouts. Always occurred @ swim practice and almost always on the 2nd lap of the first kick set [Eg immediately]. The only thing that made them go away was consistency. I still cramp up a little [towards the end of swim practice] on a monday swim after a sunday long run but there's probably nothing I can do about that.

So my hunch is conditioning is the issue? Any chance of that?
I never cramp running or on the bike fwiw [longish term averages 10-15 miles jogged/week, 50-ish miles biked/week], but swimming just nukes my shit after a long run heh--but it has gotten a lot better than it was earlier in the year when I started running. I occasionally survive a swim workout w/o a cramp even if there is a kick set. No kick set and I'll sail through. 2 kick sets and cramp guaranteed.
On wednesday swim practice [3 days removed from my long run] I never have issues cramping. I sneak in a 3-5 mile tempo run on tuesdays also.

Oddly enough, I've had a weird pull in my left calf over the past couple of days. Cycling seems to have aggravated it, as I haven't run in a week now. Annoying.

Yup. Every so often it balls up and I have to wake up, leap out of bed, and walk around until it subsides. It takes time to come out of a deep sleep, so it stays cramped and in a lot of pain for a fair amount of time... and then it feels bruised for days.

I have noticed that it doesn't happen anymore. I don't know if that's due to a better diet, or the fact that I exercise much more (including my calves).

Mine cramped up on the treadmill tonight. Left calf. I fought through it.

My triceps love to cramp up. I don't know why.

My biceps will cramp on occasion, especially during the transition off creatine and into using glutamine instead. Man, they cramped bad. For at least a week or two.

I had some rough cramps at the beginning of the season on my bike. Quads, calves, it wasnt fun.

Some googling shows that "hydration" and "electrolytes" arent really the cause of cramps. More that muscles arent prepared for activities, so they fire off spontaneously.

More exercise to those muscles is needed. Stretch the cramps out when they happen, keep going.

So turns out after seeing a specialist I have some torn ligaments on and around my outside ankle. My Achilles is swollen and I have about 30% less range of motion than my other foot. Going to have to take put running and anything jumping on hold for a while. \:\/
