I'm back, before everyone else. \:\( The guys dropped my ass faster than an hot potato, I just couldn't keep the same pace, especially on the hills. A lot of very fit guys.

It was good to ride with them though, completely different than riding with my neighbour.

Next ride will be east, around your place Wayne. You should come. Best way to get better is to keep going with the same group. Travis and I were sucking wind after you left...

I'm sitting at Second Cup patio having a cappuccino next to my bike. \:\) still not home yet lol

The best way to get better is to put in lots of miles and ride often. Cycling isn't the type of thing you can do once a week and expect to ride with a group.

How often do you ride Wayne?

^^ About once a week .Lesson learned, I'm definitely going with the same group again, and also, I'm going to try to go for a ride in the morning before work.

I was \:o at the power some of these guys had going up hills, and there was one guy whose calves looked like popeyes arms, no lie.

I skipped out from your ride today simply because I didn't think I'd keep up. I've been riding everyday since I got the bike and am getting better with every ride. I will come out for the east end ride...I actually did 20km today east on hwy 7 from markham road to north road and back. It was bliss, nice paved shoulders for a lot of the stretch, rolling hills, nice road, etc.

Can someone post the stats from today's ride? avg speed/elevation/etc? I'd be interested to see.

I think I am out of commission for riding, my ass area is wasted from riding with regular shorts. I can barely sit on anything now.

I did 25km by the time I got back, average speed 22.7km/hr. Not sure for elevation changes, but there were a few rolling hills. I am guessing the guys were above 30km/hr.

4Age, 355Si, and two other guys, but I didn't know who they were. I was tempted to say I am "paining"

Wayne don't feel bad, I will stay at the back with you. You should really do the hwy 7 stretch in the east end. I don't know how you do reesor road up to souffville. I drove up that yesterday just to check it out and it was a mess, road is narrow and busted up.

I just got home. Turned it into 91km for the day with 942 meters of elevation. I'm toast now.

The actual ride was 33km in length. Looking at things, it looks like a max elevation gain of 200 meters.

Wayne,

We all feel bad for having you need to drop off like that. I apologize for making your ride shorter than necessary. When I lead the pack on the exit of timmies, I was going at a warm up pace, but next time I'll tone that down a few more clicks to make sure we're all together.

We kept the pace relatively toned down for the duration of the ride. Just looks like a variance in fitness. But with more miles in everyone's legs, we'll be good!

The ride only got turned up on the return leg on Leslie. No idea what pace, as I had my computer turned off by then...but I was going about 120rpm on that stretch, so that's 42.5kmh. We had a semi sprint finish...starting from Elgin mills back down to hwy 7 \:D

Riders were 355si, SiRice, myself and someone not on this board (Henry - which I suspect was your reference for popeye calves XD). We'll do it again and keep the group together!

355si you're crazy for turning it into a 91k ride in this heat! Wow!!!!!!

Christ, I burned 2883 calories today. rofl.
Recovery ride for sure tomorrow!

It was a really good time today, and Vas you need to make it out for next time.
4age, enjoyed the race up to the 404 bridge... I held on to your wheel but I just couldn't get past!

SiRice, damn your crit-style riding!!! Impossible to hold a wheel! Maybe that was your plan all along rofl.

I'm down for making this monthly, or even every two weeks. It was a lot of fun.
Jeff and Vas are up next for joining... and anyone else who rides a road bike.

Took the bike out today for the first time. Ass and legs are sore as hell but it was nice to get out on my own for a bit. Went 19.2 miles on a casual ride, wasn't looking for speed. I stopped at the beach for a bit to check out the scenery and forgot to turn on the bike app again for the last leg of the ride.

4age said that we could also do a week night ride too, which would work well for me.
I can do some weekends, but not all. Out of a 6 week cycle I work 3 of them.

I'm off next Tuesday and Wednesday (July 23/24)... does either of those work?

What distance are you thinking? 30km? It sounds like a good distance to get people into this and warm them up over time.
Weekends are probably better for the bigger rides.

I'm not doubting that the guys were in shape and powerful but if you're only riding low kilometers once a week, even an average rider is going to make you look like a bitch when it comes to going up hills.

That would have happened to you even with a chamois so don't sweat it. Anytime you're off a bike for long periods and then start riding again you are going to be really sore/tender at your sit bones after a couple rides. Best bet is to take a couple days off and then give it another go. I've found if you don't let the tenderness go away with rest (staying off the bike), it will haunt you for a long time if you keep riding with a sore sit bone area.

We could ride to Dundas, Ontario and check out Domestique. I've heard it's really good for cyclists \:\)

I inhaled the remnants of my kid's Kraft Dinner when I got back. I was starving!! rofl, so terrible.

The average speed you can hold builds quickly the more often you ride. One week you're at 24km/h, a month later 28km/h is a breeze. Then one day your whole ride is in a headwind and it's nothing but FUUUUUUU all the way to hold 20km/h.

I'm not a fan of riding in groups, but I'll try to tag along when you guys do a climbing route. #120-LBS-Soaking-Wet
