I currently have a Garmin 301, thinking of upgrading to 110. Will the 110 get me a faster/better gps lock and will it work with the 301s chest strap?

Not sure about the chest strap, but yes...the newer generation watches get and hold a signal much better than the old ones. I have the 910xt, but recently got my wife the 220 and it's way better than her old 110.

Does the 220 just have more features or is there another reason?

From the GPS watch review god himself, DCRainmaker. The vibrate alert is a must have for me.

That said, here's the rough off the top of my head list of things the FR220 has, that the FR110 doesn't:

1) Pacer alerts
2) More functional heart rate zones
3) Way cleaner UI
4) Bluetooth Smart uploading of activities, downloading of workouts
5) Workout (Custom) support
6) Interval support
7) Live Tracking (via phone)
8) Clear display screen
9) Customizable data fields (up to 3 per page, two pages + HR page + workout page)
10) Vibration alerts
11) Footpod support
12) Indoor treadmill support without a footpod (though, sorta suspect in my testing)
13) Cadence without a footpod (works well)

I think that's the major features. There's probably more.

I'm dumb, that makes sense, in my mind I read 220 as 210.

I found the forerunner 210 had a good pricepoint for me on amazon.. .$160 w/HR strap. good enough for my biking/running purposes

instantaneous pace was the only thing I wanted... and being able to toggle pace/mph for run/bike

220 was/is nearly 2x

Paid $250 for the wife's w/o HR strap. Added bonus of having both average and instant pace.

I just snagged a 210 used for $55 shipped! No heart rate monitor, but I bought one for $25 shipped. $80 all in isn't bad, even if I have to replace the battery.

Sick! I've been happy with mine. Fwiw I'm trying to call mpletely ignore HR realtime data now and just take a look at it after a run/ride. It was causing me some probs with maintaining a pace/not going fast enough when I'd get fixated watching the HR data. Perhaps that's the point thou.. To help you align perceived effort with actual HR data so you don't have to look at it

Damn that's cheaper than my POS soleus. Thing takes 3-4 minutes to get signal in downtown(not bad in 'burbs) though.
