Long story short. My brother in law took his car to a shop for a coolant leak. He was also due for a Tbelt anytime now. Had Tbelt and water pump done. Mechanic called him when it was done and said car was idling very rough and throwing codes. Mechanic told my BIL he needed new plugs and wires ASAP as the car was unsafe to drive, and might catch the car on fire lol. I grabbed a set of plugs and wires tonight, met him at the parking lot of the mechanics and we swapped them there, no change, was idling really rough and had barely any acceleration. Car also throwing codes still and whole car was shaking because the engine was misfiring. I looked all over the engine bay for a loose connector that the mechanic may have missed....then I spot this

...thats one of the wires going to the ignition coil.

Clean cut, not even on the side the mechanic was swapping the belt and water pump. No idea if this was on purpose or a freak accident some how, but how could the mechanic miss this. Something doesn't add up. I felt like we were on one of those undercover shows that look for shady places.

Was it just the wire or did the "mechanic" skip a few teeth on the tbelt install?

Yep, you generally don't expect cut wires like that I'd probably go through the entire car (process of elimination) and still not find that

I'm no wiz with cars but my job requires a lot of troubleshooting wiring so I have experience with fault finding.

My guess was someone wanted the car to be brought back so they could charge more labour to diagnose and fix a few more things all along knowing it was a simple fix but jack labour.

i've actually done that when my apex exhaust had a small hole from bottoming out. but i used rim clamps - its lasted for a while till i had something welded over it

I'd be pissed! Usually you bring shit to a mechanic to save yourself time, no time saved & I have to diagnose it myself would put me in a rage.
