Wife hates gassing up the car and her driving is within the range of the Volt's battery. She wanted a car that had all the bells and whistles and this car comes pretty loaded vs. looking at a Audi/BMW/VW which she didn't like

Wife hates gassing up the car and her driving is within the range of the Volt's battery. She wanted a car that had all the bells and whistles and this car comes pretty loaded vs. looking at a Audi/BMW/VW which she didn't like. I was trying to get her into a E91, but she didn't like it This is the most refined car I have ever driven. GM has done a really good job with it...only time will tell how the longevity is lol. She is able to use 404 HOV by herself for the time being and that cuts her commute by 20mins. So the last time she gassed up was Feb 28, she use to fill up once a week and hated doing it lol. Basically the Volt is good as long as you are within it's driving range but once it switches over to gas it eats just as much as a civic would. Is this car a good purchase for most people? Not likely IMO, but it does drive really nice and has gobs of torque available from a dead start. It's amazing how many people out there think that the Volt is a pure electric car. I've had a couple neighbours ask me about it and all thought that it was battery only.
How much has your hydro bill increased since you got the car?
I do a lot of stop and go driving (commute = 35 km one way) - so I'm wondering if this car will benefit me when it's time to ditch my current DD in a couple of years.
There's also government discounts when buying an electric car, right? What does the Volt cost?

^ let me know when you get a chance to play w/ the new Accord hybrid -- the Star (Wheels) article makes it seem interesting w/ the e-CVT and how little gas it (may) use.
Volts base price is $37k. There is a $8230 rebate from the gov. Currently getting 70kms per charge. Hydro bill has gone up a whopping $35 for bi-monthly billing.
how many charges does that work out to, in 2 months? (cuz you said she doesn't drive much). 70km would mean i'd have to charge it every night; just wondering if it would save more compared to gas / diesel in the long run.
oh and how's insurance compared to your shitvic / m3 ?

The car plugged in everyday. She does a 55km round trip during the week. We charge the car during peak as well. Like Eddie says though how much gas will you need save to make up the premium paid lol. If buying solely for saving money you need to crunch some numbers.
I spend about $90 / week in gas right now (premium, dude! premium! Winter I'm close to 15 L / 100km -- summer I've been good to keep it at 11-12 L / 100 km) --
My DD is a ticking time bomb - CPO will run out this August; just had a lot of the expensive replaced (fuel sending unit was cracked; all 6 injectors replaced; 1 ignition coil a few months before that); so hope that will last me another 60k km (total = 180k km). So I will be buying as a proper replacement, not so much just to save $.
Hopefully the government rebate will still be around by then.

Euphoric: Be glad you don't drive something which consumes something like 17L/100. DDing that on fuel alone costs more to fill up per month than some people's car payments XD XD
