Back in 09 I realized the SLR part of DSLR was legacy technology...that one day mirrorless cameras and smaller lenses would be the norm due to digital sensors. But I didn't buy into the NEX5/3 b/c it was too slow, and the controls weren't up to snuff. And it hasn't really been up to snuff until now...
I really like what Fuji is doing w/ the X-T1. Layout is fabulous, customizable Fn buttons for what you need, and it's not too tiny (unlike my miserable EOS M). I was quite impressed w/ the low light capabilities even when compared to the D800/5D3 http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
Add to that the fast zoom lenses to be soon released. They are finally taking huge step in the right direction. It seems like a lot of people are excited about it too, looking at the Amazon best sellers list.

I don't think I'd be happy with a camera that I had to use the tips of my fingers to hold. That's really one of the things I like a lot about my Nikon's. Everyone always says to shop ergonomics right? Right, the body doesn't have to be so large, but it feels good in my hands.

But you're right... It's getting better. Still not my jam though.

Skimmed through it... Sony is doing mirrorless right with the A7/r... Gotta be full frame imo. 16mp is lacking.
if its full frame 16mp, then disregard, but 16 is still weak.
It's full frame.
There was a customer at one of my accounts last week who had a D800 with some sort of mega-zoom bolted to it and I couldn't get over how fucking MASSIVE that camera is. I think/hope/wish smaller camera's like this Fuji become more popular, or at least more like it come available.
I purchased a Pentax LX film body last week... why is it impossible to stuff digital guts into a similar package? The Fuji looks like its heading or already is in that direction, but still

yeah, two of my buddies shoot the 800.. the one guy with the 800 and 70-200/2.8 made my 5d mark 2 feel like a toy. it was laughable. i'd love me a 800 (sensor), but that body would really add some weight to a pack. hence my want for the A7r...
apparently lens selection isn't there.
but this.. yeah, yeah, adapters and such, for now i'm holding off.

I really dig this and the x100s. Sony just released the nex 6000 which is appealing for an aps-c body with a $650 msrp but then there is the EF adapter since Sony doesn’t have much glass yet.
There is a good article about tech advances in the camera industry and the author makes some good points about mirrorless, contrast detection AF, electronic shutters:
http://petapixel.com/2014/02/11/disruption-innovation/
If I had the cash I'd definitely use something like the x-t1 or x100s alongside and probably more than a dslr. Being able to use a 2 pound tripod that folds up to 15" long would be awesome.

Do we know if the magnified point in the dual view VF mode can be moved or if it stays in the center?

I have the k40x ball head they make and it weighs more than that entire tripod. I don't have to worry about it sagging after framing a shot but it does look like overkill on a 2 series set of legs.
CSi isn't helping the x100s bug with the Amazon ads for the 49mm lens hood and UV filter.

The more I look at this camera, the more I like about it. No Fuji dealers locally, but I did play with an Olympus OMD EM1 and if the viewfinder is supposed to be better, with better laid out controls, and a similar form factor this is going to be a great little camera.
apparently lens selection isn't there. but this.. yeah, yeah, adapters and such, for now i'm holding off.
Not there yet, but getting there maybe? The lens roadmap from Fuji looks interesting to say the least.
I'm not really seeing whats missing, or what will be missing by the end of this year, except maybe 3rd party lens support. I kinda wish more of the existing lens options were weather sealed to go along with the XT1's weather sealing. Gotta admit I like the below zero temperature rating too, though I wonder how fast the battery will drain with the EVF when it's -20 like it was last night shooting the aurora's or like its going to be this weekend at the Iron Dog race finish on the Chena River.

Aw. Yiss.
Now that you have it, can you tell me if the magnified area for the focus aids in the dual view mode can be moved or if the magnified point is just the center? Hope that made sense.

Played around with one yesterday. I was a bit miffed that you can't move the focus assist point once it's zoomed in like I can on my 5D2 or the A7R I played around with. Seems cumbersome to have to hit the CFn for focus point, move it, then zoom in. It's fine for tripod work but makes in much less useful on the fly.
