Jesus. Meanwhile, this weekend is MS150. I'm not feeling the mojo do do the century leg on day 1. I might want to finish earlier, while more is going on. Maybe just cruise the 75 with my friends and have fun.
Realistically, I'd do it at my usual 15.5 mph pace for a long ride, so there's not much to prove.
We'll see...

Just did my longest solo ride, 75 miles at 17mph with ridiculous wind on the return leg I am beat. Did the first 40 miles at 19 mph then the wall of wind was discouraging as fuck.
Hoth in summer
My friends
Romantic spot for bike and i, had to take a pic.
At hour 3 I was wasted from the headwind, average heart rate of 165 for a while trying to maintain that 19mph, was about to call it a life and just fucked off for a bit then cruised back at 145ish effort wise.

Nice ride RB!
I did 50 solo miles yesterday and it rained for the last 1/3. Fought the wind seemingly the whole way and ended up with a 16.xx average.
Edit: supposed to do another 1.5 hours today. Don't know that I have it in me

I dunno how you maniacs do fast hilly centuries. This was day 1 of the MS150 and it involved a lot of climbing.
No stats because I only logged it in because didn't want to kill phone battery.
Day 2 got cancelled because of rain, so that was my concentrated effort for the weekend. Felt good for most of it, though. Really only started hurting by mile 85 and even then, it was tolerable.

20 mph time trial achievement unlocked Wewt 723' course official climbing I paid a price for this on the run lol, swim before was conservative also

I actually have it in my calendar. STXC sounds awesome. What time do you race on each day? I'm sure I can get there for one of them. Also--you had mentioned needing someone to crew for you. Is that still needed?

4:15 for xc on sat and 4:30 for stxc on sunday. Keep in mind the stxc race is only 20 min. Im good on support, my teammate is coming with so he will be in the tech/feed zone for me. just saw todd wells signed up...crazy to think 4 years ago i just got on a mtb and now im lining up in the same race as him

how do i avoid the mid/late season peak then drop off?
i always get this, usually in september. my fitness reaches a peak and then i just crater thru october and stop riding around halloween, maybe into the second week of november and pick up again in march. i'll do the occasional weekend ride if we get weather where the wind isn't blowing 30mph, then i fight the grind to get back in shape when spring comes back around... which is misery.
i think my problem is that i never really took recovery rides or weeks with lesser intensity work and my body just crashes. doing the sufferfest 10 week training program has opened my eyes to this. they beat the hell out of you 2-3 weeks at a time, and then give you a week to recover, though you still put in some work during it. i'm in week 7 and am really happy with my progression.
what worries me, is how do i train after i'm done with this, with the goals of steadily improving fitness/strength? i've thought about getting a coach, but it seems like an extravagant expense for an amateur rider who doesn't really have any aspirations to race.

I'm a cyclist who, doesn't race.
If I wanted to get into racing, at some point, what's a good strategy.
I ride 40-60/week, mostly very short rides (only 1 per week above 10) on my "gravel grinder". I tend ride agressively a decent portion of that.
Should I try to add: 1 longer ride (30-40)? more medium rides(10-15), some sort of focused training? Or just anything that gets me more saddle time, even indoor?

Ive already decided I'm in - Wife Ok'd as well. Just working on my brother.
I think its pretty reasonable given everything that included, the length of time , location ,etc.

this is a good start. honestly at the start ,lots of seat time is the major thing. what kind of racing? road ,crits, mtb, cyclocross...? ride a lot, ride quick up hills and that will take you a good ways to start.
also, train by hours, not miles

if your body is crashing, you need more recovery or easy rides

Got 4 hours of saddle time between yesterday and today with the new oval ring. It took about 2 minutes to get used to it and now my spin feels a lot more natural, don't really notice that dead zone as much, feels like i'm always in my power strokes. Climbing with the oval is the biggest change I noticed. Seated climbing just feels so much better, it really feels like i'm powering up the hill much quicker than previously. Out of the saddle climbing on more technical climbs is amazing, never lost traction once and it feels less tiring for some reason. I know it's not much saddle time but I can't find a thing wrong, everything just feels so much better.

Are you and your brother equals when it comes to riding? If one of you are better than the other it can be VERY frustrating for the stronger rider. I did a 3 day stage race a few years ago as a team with my buddy, same race as the solo guys, only difference was you had to cross the timing zone and finish area within a minute of your partner. I was a stronger rider than him and it got frustrating having to ride his pace or riding ahead and then stopping and cooling down while waiting for him. If you guys are different riders do it solo so you can each ride your own race and enjoy it at your own pace.
