Anyone interested in a ClubSi group for this?
I'm doing the 25 and the 50 mile races. (Saturday and Sunday.)

Did you get Firecrests?

Yes. Did you get your tubulars?

No way I am ready for a Centurion. Maybe next year, giving myself a year to get in shape and get some lungs/legs.

That's pimp. It will be a while before i upgrade anything on my bike. I can't even ride it at its peak.

I do want wheels with less spokes though, for some reason I really like those ones with the thicker/fewer spokes.

I have fulcrum racing, are they any good?

Dear noob,

Yes they are. Fulcrum is manufacturered by Campagnolo.
So it's like you got Volks by Rays wheels.

Are Volks any good? XD

FWIW though, yours is the entry level version. Which is fine.
The thicker/fewer spoke wheels (ie: Ksyrium, Eurus etc) actually are less aero than what you have now. They just look cool and are lighter.

Shane posted the strava from your group ride. I migtht give it a shot this week before I go to Cali. That will be the deciding factor if I come in a couple weeks.

Truth be told, I like riding alone more than in a group (not sure why) /forever alone.

I'm off so I should be in. Looking forward to it.

That said I'd like to put a group together to do the Centurion.
Wayne, like I said, the slogan is "Racers race, riders ride."
It's chip timed but it isn't competitive unless you want it to be.
My wife did the 25K at Horseshoe last year and she was 3 months pregnant. She puked 6 times and walked up Horseshoe Valley Road (The Bitch). She finished last, but third in her age group and earned the bronze medal with an average speed of 20.8km/h.

So Wayne, unless you willing to admit to getting owned by a pregnant woman who had previously rode a road bike a max of 10 times in her life before the C25K, then I suggest you register at Centurioncycling.com and come to Blue on September 14/15 \:\)

You could have only 1 lung and it could have a single lobe and be cancerous and still do this.
You compete against yourself. I'm not a pro (this is a UCI points race too) but I compete against the clock (and my time from the previous year.)
So simple and a great experience.

They've got an expo, bike support, feed stations, closed roads, draft-legal (if you're comfortable doing it), racers race and riders ride.
Last year I stayed at Blue Mountain Village suites for a good rate and had an amazing time.
You walk out of your hotel and it's all bikes everywhere and cyclists and you all go to restaurants and you're all there for the same reason and have the same thing in common.

Come on people!
I'm going, a friend of my from Peel Paramedic Services is going, my wife is going (she's doing the 25 and thinking about the 50) and I would love to have more people.
We don't necessarily ride together, at some point, someone is going to drop someone. But you will still have a great time... promise. The fun thing is when you find someone, or some people who run approximately the same pace as you do and you can draft together. It's pretty awesome.
Ideally, it's people who's pace is *slightly* faster than yours and it makes you push but you stay in their draft and go even faster.

My wife didn't draft and she was one of the stragglers but every year she comes back for more, with new goals to meet.

Lol, too bad they haven't done anything cardio related for a few years. I don't expect to get back to anywhere respectable until a few months down the road. 6 rides doesn't exactly cut it.

The 25 is super quick. It has 3 or 4 ramps to split up the pack, but otherwise it's quite flat and smooth.
I averaged 34.8km/h and my buddy from Peel did it at 41km/h avg.
I'm certain I can go faster this year.
Last year there were 3000 riders in the 25... and 8000 in the 50/100.

Come on, let's do this! It would be a fun time and a great escape from the city with Blue Mountain/Collingwood as the backdrop!

$69 for the 25 and $109 for the 50.

Jay, how do you feel about doing the 50km with a 53x18 gear...out of curiosity XD
But wait...8k riders? How does one go for time with so much traffic?

This sounds like a madhouse

I will not do it on a 53x18 lol.
And just for you, I believe there's a 10km stretch up uphill on the 50. It's not a steep uphill, but it's 10km of it.

You can still go for time with a mass start... it just won't be time-trialesque.

Come on Shaun, sign up. It'll be great!

I need to figure out my gear. 10km climb? WTF that is amazing!!!!!!
GIVE ME A HEADWIND TOO!!! <3

My gearing is equivalent to 53x18, thus my asking. Gear down too much and downhills will *really* suck. Interestinggg.

How is it for dodging traffic when the event starts? Is it a cluster like the ride for heart? Sounds like it is... I never been to a timed event with 8k people or whatever. That's crazy. At a road race, even with only like 60 entrants, the beginning is packed enough!

Anthills new video is finally released! Check it out..

http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Anthill-Films-Presents-NotBad-FREE-Online-Premiere-2013.html

As much as I love lung burning climbs and redlining my heart for hours on my cross country bike (and occasionally on my road bike), NOTHING beats bombing down a mountain as fast as you can and hitting huge senders or rattling through gnarly technical rock gardens. The above video is what bikes were built for!

Oh for youuuu! Hell, go ahead and do it with a 53x18 \:\)

As for dodging... it's doable after a couple of minutes. I was moving around and driving forward when I did it. It's not bad.
Even if it was, I still expect you there.
They have 2-bedroom suites with kitchens and fireplaces for rent. Hurry up and get talking with Shane and others and let's get people there to do this together.
Yeah, we'll drop people and we'll get dropped... but it's a lot of fun and meeting at the line and hanging over some beers and coffee is awesome with all the other riders everywhere.

And we can go on the Ridge Runner! \:D

Here's the official video for Blue Mountain from last year (Cameron is in the video twice, getting a medal in the Kids Ride.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAFuu3_t6FQ

and for Horseshoe from last year (the beginning looks like people are pedaling slowly because they are... going up the Bitch)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT44iApoGUQ

footnote: those para-cyclists are bloody fast

EDIT: and Shaun, there are 4 climbs at Horseshoe that are between 9 and 11% in grade (the longest being the Bitch at 1.6km)
EDIT2: Shaun, they have the Timex Vertical Challenge if you're interested. Race up Scenic Caves Rd. 2.5km at 12% gradient. They also have the open hill climb challenge which is for everyone interested. ;\)

Jay,

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards going, and will bring the wife unit along also. May be cool if we all grab a suite together or something.

But as for a cycling event, I'm thinking that even the 50 is a bit short. I will do more research. You mentioned you're doing the 25 and 50, right? Different days, I presume?

EDIT: i'm a noob

Yeah we could get a couple of suites (or three if we have enough.)
The suite I have is 2 bedrooms and a pull out couch. I'm dumping my kid on the floor to sleep lol.

I plan to do the 100 next year, but this year it's the 25 and the 50 mile events.
25 runs Saturday morning and 50 runs Sunday. They both start somewhere around 7:30am. Normally I'm up at 6:30 and eating my breakfast...
The temperature last year was something like 11 degrees at the start, so I had my sleeves on for the first bit.
Actually, it was 11 this morning when I went out and I had my Cinderellas on too (that's what my wife calls sleeves.)

I just figure if we get people like Shane and Wayne and my G-Unit, the 100 will be a bit (lot) too long for people who don't ride routinely (and anywhere near that distance.)
But 25 and 50 for sure for me.

i could do 100 ...

if it was downhill, tailwind ... on an ebike.

i gotta check my schedule, but i'd like to attempt the 50 mile. i'd need to do some practice runs to see if i can make that distance and still walk..

plus, i just got my secret weapon. bet none of you have a phone mount sporting a picture of some random asian chick infront of a hydundai! eat your heart out fellas. me and her, we're taking the gold!
