^^ There's a bit of trolling, but there are sites that compare seats and how they perform in various crash tests. I don't know if you have taken a look, but the safety standards are a minimum. Its kind of like saying I don't need the 10 airbags in a bimmer because I have a seat belt in my Yugo. Sure, you don't need it, but in a crash, you'll be glad you had it.
Its not just the crash test, its how much use you get out of the seat too. I haven't seen crash tests but I'd assume that the type of car will do a lot more for the kids' safety in an accident than the car seat itself. It's not like the kid/seat breaks from it's mounting points and the kid is thrown off. That's my basic layman take on this whole thing. I do believe in having a bigger car though so ya I will be that douche that carts a kid around in an SUV for the safety points. A lot of people do it. There is no doubt that a bigger car/van/truck is safer than a more expensive car seat. But you'd loose out on gas mileage weekly so you'd have to figure out what works for you.
If your commute to work (round trip) is 7km I couldn't care less about mileage (I won't be the one driving it anyway).
Second based on your earlier post, are you saying that only $500 dollar car seats fit in regular cars like the legacy and anything less than $500 simply doesn't fit? Please elaborate on that
Third, do not compare a helmet to a child seat, that's just silly...that's almost as bad as Wayne's example of saying that if you don't spend $500 you don't care about the kid. Let's not go there.
I know I know, I am not a parent I don't understand $ spent on car seats vs. child safety. /FROTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Shut up redneck! That shit isn't even nice to drive.
The whole expiration on the car seats is fucking bullshit. They never expired before till the past decade or so? Too lazy to wiki but I'm sure the info can be found there. I need to start shopping around for a car seat and I could really give 2 shits on the brand as long as it fits the stupid as 335d...back seats are a fucking joke in this car.

I have a lowly peasant 2010 Ford F150 XTR from work, I will let you beat the shit out of it and then tell me it isn't nice to drive.
They move pretty well, they handle a lot like a car, suspension is nice and stiff (not back breaking). These pick ups are amazing inside, drive like cars and can haul a ton of shit while providing that *safety* y0. If you don't drive a pick up/suv you obviously don't give a shit about your kid. i know on the tree series most of them fit good in the middle, since there's that hook in the middle of the back deck thing. only downside is that when you tighten the seat down it compresses the seat in and there's a imprint.

Second based on your earlier post, are you saying that only $500 dollar car seats fit in regular cars like the legacy and anything less than $500 simply doesn't fit? Please elaborate on that Third, do not compare a helmet to a child seat, that's just silly...that's almost as bad as Wayne's example of saying that if you don't spend $500 you don't care about the kid. Let's not go there. I know I know, I am not a parent I don't understand $ spent on car seats vs. child safety. /FROTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

vs
Rear facing, see how the seat is up at the headrest. That's all the difference those extra 4 inches. The only 2 carseats in Canada that go above the headrest while having safety features like the head wings etc are $500 after tax. Yes there are cheaper options, but they sit/fit lower so instead they go into the back of the seat instead of above it. When in the center position it fits perfectly between both seats when all the way back. Front facing what most do because they have no other choice fit fine. Compared to into the back of the seat thus having to move the front seat forward.
Maybe you didn't know, but it's the law to have a child rear facing until at least 1 years old. Many don't
Your missing the point completely. Fact child seats have and are made of styrofoam aka eps foam. Fact it doesn't last forever in the sun heat, uv rays, cold, sweat, puke etc. What makes you think other wise? Hence the expiry dates. NVM the harness straps etc.
You can easily tell that your not a parent. Money isn't the factor, the factor is the seats that fit smaller cars when rear facing is all of 2 and cost $400+.

I don't understand why the seat has to be rear facing...it's the law, but why?
Secondly it's only rear facing seats that seem to be the problem, so for the 1 year or less that you need it you will spend $500? Baller, I don't make that kind of money.
Also, the *foam* which is covered by "padding" is completely different in terms of protection than the foam wrapped around your *HEAD* in a super snug fit. Come on man, I know you know you are over reaching with that last argument so I will leave it at that.
If a $500 dollar seat is the only option to fit it in a regular car then that sucks, otherwise, it's a waste of money and it's NOT safer.

Simple children's bones don't fully develop until well after 2 years of age. So if an accident were to happen, it's less force to the child being pushed into the seat your already strapped in compared to lunge forward when you don't have any motor skills to even attempt to hold your head up/arms, legs etc 1 year is the law. 2 years is minimum recommended by doctors.
And actually it's not any different. Same technology. Who cares though.
$500 isn't anything. The one $500 seat at the beginning will save you from upgrading to newer bigger seats every 6-12 months. The initial cost is high yes, but I DO NOT have to buy another seat for the next 6 years compared to 1 $150 at birth, 2nd $150 at 6 months 3rd $150 at 1.5 years 4th $150 at 3 years. Follow me? You either spend it now or you spend it over time. Either way you're spending it and if I'm spending it I want to be able to use the front passenger seat.
You keep coming back to it being more safe, lol. Never did I say that a $500 seat is safer than a $150 seat. I explained the testing differences between Canada & the State though. The safest seat is the one that's installed and used correctly.
There's a ton of simple everyday things that the more expensive seats do that aren't big things. But the really big thing is 3 across seating so that you don't have to upgrade vehicles, another downside that only the more expensive seats have. Again not a big deal if you only plan to have one child. Twins & triplets run on both sides and I got lucky this time it was only 1, next time I might not be that lucky. LOL

You have to understand you are speaking to someone who knows fuck all about this...
So the new twist to the story is that $500 seats are adjustable. I don't get why your $500 seat would work up to age 6 and a cheap one wont? I thought after 4 years old or whatever you just go in a booster seat or whatever. I don't get where having to buy a car seat every 2 years to accommodate the size of the kid makes sense, never heard of it but i don't know.
Aren't there cheaper adjustable one? If you have two child seats in car, even an EG hatch should be able to fit them side by side no matter how bulky they are.
Obviously if you are saying that $150 seats aren't adjustable and $500 ones are adjustable there is a solid business case for going with a $500 and getting over with it, for whatever reason that doesn't see like it's the only option. Again, layman here.

Wow she's grown a lot. When does she learn to clap roti? thanks man, she is getting big...and mouthy. that flippin caillou. risky babies under year have to be rear-facing because their necks are too jelly in the event of an accident. if they are rear-facing then in a accident there's no whiplash effect, unless you get into one hell of a head on collision.

I rear-faced our son until he was 3. As long as they don't complain about their legs being bent while rear facing or travelling backwards, you might as well keep them like that. It's way safer.

No not adjustable. It all comes back to the law. There's two main ones. Weight limit, height limit are the main ones. Weight limit is self explanatory, don't exceed it. Height limit is once a child comes with in 1 inch of the top of the seat it's time to upgrade to a taller seat. The cheaper seats have shorter shells so 37" vs 43" etc.
Secondary is rear tether attached available yes or no. Is it required for the direction your installing the seat, yes or no. No more than 1" of movement in the seat in any given direction with seat installed in the car & weight applied to the seat. So different manufactures have different designs that work and others that plain don't. Same for car manufactures seat designs that work and other don't. Subaru's older than 08 are known for a difficult install due to the raised middle seat in the rear thus no car seat in the middle.
Other things like some seats cannot touch another child seat beside it or the seat infront of it or person seated beside. There's a certain angle each seat has to be installed at determined by the manufacturer. Usually 45 degrees parallel to the ground. Rear latch installs cannot exceed 40lbs even though some seats go to 40, 50, 65 lbs so you have to use the seat belt instead.
So cars have inflatable seat belts, can't install a car seat in those locations. Some care that have side airbags state the a car seat cannot be touching the seat where the airbag would deploy within 2" let's say. Some cars have side curtain rear air bags so no seats can be installed in the outter positions.
So seats only have 2 position harness belts that can be raised as the child grows, some have 5 positions.
Some can only be used if the child can hold it's own head up, some can be from birth. etc etc etc etc.
It's actually really frustrating trying to figure out what's allowed and what isn't between each brand, car manufacture etc. Guess which seats have all those covered?

. Then way are you arguing about this lol
I am admitting it and educating myself on it, you along with most here are as clueless as I am about it, you just look at price tags and equate it to beign good...wildout obviously being the exception and that still doesn't make him the holy bible to child seats either

If I can help you or anyone else save the frustration by all means I will. Big Tasty & ZC911 helped me prepare what I should be focusing on. Thanks guys
Going through all the test fits, manuals etc was such a headache. You find a seat you like only to find out its been discountinued, not made in Canada or the store that has them on sale is because they expire in a couple of years.

Let's see if I did this right, if it doesn't already set up just go to 1:21 and skip the tugging of the heart strings part. I mentioned it before but having a child front facing at a young age will have their heads whip forward violently in a front end collision and may sever the spinal cord.

I always loved looking out back whenever I got a ride when I was younger in my friends woody wagon with the flipback seat. What was it called again? More to fuck with your head Risky The law says you can use a seatbelt at 8 years or 80lbs (don't quote me on that haven't gotten their yet) But car manufacture designed the seat belt system to work this way. So you could be older or weight more and still not pass the 5 step test, but be legal to be in a car without a booster. or vice versa, you could be younger or lighter and pass the 5 step test, but still be required by law to be in a booster seat. /Genetics eddie82 doesnt even pass this test.
