For the last 3 months my SO and I have been looking for a dining room table DAILY. Kijiji/craigslist all that shit...no seriously this is one item we wanted to get that's *proper*.
Went to the following places:
Pottery Barn (USA) Pottery Barn (Yorkdale) Crate & Barrel Woodcraft EQ3 Kudo West ELM Random Kijiji Finds RusTeak DesignRepublic etc, etc, etc.
Basically I've seen over 100 different dining room tables at this point and started giving up hope. Our big priority was to have a table that will last a *lifetime* something that an old school relative would approve of (if you get my point). Between all the searching and research one thing is for certain, they don't make them like they used to. We also went to the brick/Leons and all those other big box stores (didn't feel like mentioning) and honestly, everything is garbage. Not trying to undermine their furniture, it's *decent* furniture and we have some of it, but none of it is lifetime. Everything we saw had a shortcut taken through, veneer, thickness of wood, frame, type of wood, always something.
Anyway, today we walked into into one of the stores on Queen west and found a table at last. We were both kind of skeptical at first, don't get me wrong, the live edge is pretty cray cray and it wasn't something we even considered because of trendiness/current hype, but after feeling it, sitting on it, hitting it (MAAA THE MEATLOAF!!!!) I fell in love with it. My SO was pretty weirded out by it, but after an hour in the store it happened.
500 lbs Risky Business table has been purchased at last. I am sure most won't like it, that's fine, not asking to like it, just sharing. Enjoy zeee pix.
I am now broke

Not my style, but there's nothing like solid wood furniture. Most of the stuff that we have in our house is veneer/MDF cheap stuff, but our dining room table is solid teak. We bought it from some place that sold Indonesian furniture.

Too trendy, will be out of style in a few years and look like 1970s wood paneling in the basement

Nice kill! Wife and I took forever to decide on our dining and dinette tables as well. We knew what we wanted, and the closest we could find was at Restoration Hardware. We ended up finding the one (out of all places) are Urban Barn.
Now whats hard is finding the right chairs / benches

Good thing is you can always take it to a wood shop and get it planned/straightened and put it on a metal frame down the road.

We did look at going custom, my SO's cousin is an interior designer, between her custom guys and the people we met through the home show (including the amish guys) we couldn't really decide on design.
The other issue with custom tables is the 8 week wait and since we wasted this much time looking and have been using a plastic POS table as a dining room table we needed something faster. Even this table will take a month to get done.

CHairs are ridiculously expensive, especially for real wood ($300 is going rate easy).
I am going to troll kijiji for something that fits on the sides and probably drop coin for the end table chairs.

Nice table. What was the $$$$ damage? When I was looking, I popped into Design Republic on Queen at Bathurst....they had similar tables but wanted $2k++ for it with a live edge.
