BTW--it must feel fantastic to ride that bike on actual roads rather than on a trainer. Just getting out there today I was thinking "damn, this beats the hell out of the trainer!!!"

Jesus man. Nice job. I think I told you back in October you had to be patient.
You're more defined than me. Shit your arms might be bigger too. I've definitely not been doing my best. Fuck, I've got to step it up.
Keep working on the bench and the standing press and your shoulders and pecs will fill in. (the one area where you're not kicking my ass).
Seriously, you're showing me where the whole thing comes into play(I've done no changes to my diet except adding a bit more protein in the last 4 months). I get more calories from alcohol per week than you probably get in one whole day.

Haha, I don't think I was squeezing against the lat, at least not intentionally. I did do 40 push ups, 20 curls (20lbs/arm) and 20 sit ups before the photos though. And like I said before, the lighting helps a ton...overhead kitchen lighting really shows off all the contours...head on lighting (like the update pics in my other thread) don't look as impressive. I am working that chest and press though. I'm actually taking the week off from exercises that involve lifting with the legs due to a minor (I hope) injury but I'm still doing press and chest...banged out 150x3x5 on chest today much easier than the last set on Friday, I think on Monday I can go for 152.5 since my 1.25 weights came in today. If all goes well, I'll be able to increase my bench by 20 lbs over the next 4 weeks...would be awesome. The exciting thing about all this is that I'm only 2 months into SS, I can't wait for 3 months. I realize growth is faster when a beginner and slows down but I don't think I'm close total yet, definitely still a beginner. Thanks for the comments..who the hell ever thought my fatass would hear someone say "You're more defined than me?"
Overhead lighting is awesome..
Yeah, I've found my BP goes in spurts. Some days a lightweight will be hard and then I'll blow past a prior PB like it's nothing.
For the record Val, I'm not a model of fitness. I only started S.S. 1-2 months before you. I just wasn't as resistant to starting as you... I was realizing I kick back about 12-15 beers/drinks a week. I think I need to quit the garbage in routine. All I've done to my diet is reduce cheese, increase protein(a little) and that's it. That and i need to up the cardio.
Either way. You're doing good stuff man. You've earned some props for how much you've turned around. Especially in the last 2-3 months.

it's way easier to build from nothing, than it is to build, let yourself go and try to build it back up again.
I disagree with this. The base I built 15 years ago was maintained with VERY little effort/exertion. I got dough-y here and there over the years, but getting decent muscle tone back wasn't nearly as hard as it was to get it in the first place. For me, muscle memory is no joke.
I mean, I haven't been fully out of shape since that time, but I've let things slide pretty hard for quite a few extended periods of time.

Yeah, as far as muscle or cardio go, having built a good base in the past has always seemed useful even after a long break. Burning fat is a different task altogether tho'

I don't generally watch my diet too closely
and thats why his abs arent visible ..yet.
when you are a teen you can easily out train(and grow) a horrid high calorie diet. not so much as you age.
same with gamby. cut the cals, consistently and youll abs will come around. the problem is people dont want to put in the month and months of reduced cals...but really its only hard at first. then you get used to it.

abs are overrated, gotta diet too strict to have them, I'd rather have raw strength in my legs and upper body than a washboard stomach. lol what do seeing abs have to do with raw leg and upper body strength?

Well, this is the tightest my diet has ever been (although still far from perfect), so we'll see where it goes. I've been trying to work my abs daily. I'm feeling much slimmer lately, which is cool.
I'm pretty stoked at how much my belly has shrunken since new year's

I was just going to let the thread get back on track rather than have a pissing contest about knowledge or people having to be right or correct statements. I'd rather eat big and lift big, than fast for abs while plateauing on strength gains. If that's wrong and you're defying that statement then by all means go on with your bad selves but I have yet to see anyone in these threads with a 6 pack with over a 300lb backsquat and 400+lb deadlift (besides art)
i'm close....287 BS and 365 DL (which was too easy to be a real max).

No one is trying to have a pissing contest. Just asking what being lean has to do with being weak and what being fat has to do with being strong. And my maxes are well in that range with a six pack.
I just want to know what fat is doing for someone that contributes to strength gains.
he's saying that powerlifters and strongmen are "fat" and if they were lean their lifts would have to go down

I wouldn't call myself fat where I'm at now, and my lifts are 310bs and 419deadlift but it seems the more weight I lose the more those numbers are starting to dwindle. So what I was saying is i'd rather have the little bit of flab (not too much) and increase my lifts again than to get to Chris' size and lose 100lbs off of each of those.
