I think the moms in your circle are going to start swooning. You've kicked some major ass.

BTW--back to the calf-off, I just measured mine @ 16".

it just dumbfounds me how Mom is 160lbs, runs like a horse, and doesn't show any abs... i'd think for your size and cardio load you're bodyfat would be a bit lower...

solid work though, i guess you're looking to drop 10 more though, huh...?

I say genetics. Same reason I've never had them. Same reason dudes who do nothing have them.

Ages ago, I read in Bicycling that you're just as likely to have a belly (not that he has a belly) as you are to have a big nose.

I'm working on them pretty hard, but I don't foresee much in terms of results.

nah, everyone has abs, it's just uncovering them... you can build them up but bodyfat needs to be in a range to see them... i'd just think the amount of cardio Mom gets in, they'd be coming out...

everyone's is going to look different but they are in there, otherwise he wouldn't have the strength to run like he does...

so i'm wondering if it's diet or weight training that's the limiting factor, or a combo of the 2...

Yeah, probably around 150 and I'd see some more abs. Im honestly not too concerned with it though. Sure I want to look good on the beach in a month, but thats just for my own self confidence...not looking to impress anybody really.. I'll be really happy if I can get to the Big Island at 155.

I don't generally watch my diet too closely when I'm training hard...I just don't have the energy for 20 hours a week unless I'm eating when and what I want to.

Keep in mind, I spent most of my 20's early 30's right around 200 pounds. I was 208 in may of 2010 when I started training. I'm still in the honeymoon phase with my new body. \:D

Ill also add that my stomach midsection and chest are rock solid under what is now a really thin layer of skin/fat. I would like to get my BF measured just to see what I'm at since Ive never had it checked.

Same boat, but hidden under a much thicker layer of fat. \:\(

I have no interest in being a slave to diet. Slave to training? Sure thing. \:D

Honestly though, I can't see what the health benefits are to having a 6 pack over just being in a healthy weight range and fit enough to do whatever it is your into at a level you want to be.

it's not about the 6 pack as it is about the lower amount of BF... and you're not unhealthy at all... just think how much easier your runs would be if you were carrying 5-10 less pounds around... ;\)

this

I still have a life to live and being on a competition bodybuilder diet doesn't really fit in the picture.

That said, I'm eating much more reasonably than I used to.

Sure everyone has them, but stronger abs show more. I know I've gotten more abs from lifting and doing planks did I did from running 1/2 marathons.

Of course, and I've seen the proof of that over the last 2 years. I'm more than willing to take a lower bf %, but I'm in no hurry, and if it doesn't end up being a happy medium between diet and training load....well, it is what it is.

With my run/tri training its an ebb and flow. 3 months hard training followed by a short period of time of lower training time until the build for the next race. If I gain a few pound....no biggie. Being an athlete has become a lifestyle for me...Im in it for the long haul.

you don't need to be on a competition bodybuilder diet bro... it's just common sense...

if you're eating to lose weight, you're already on the right track...

which is why I've started incorporating some core exercises. Short term goal of looking good on vacation, long term goal of being a better runner.

With the exception of Runners World cover models, you don't see many elite runners/triathletes with really sculpted abs. Super low body fat, but mostly flat stomachs.

abs are overrated, gotta diet too strict to have them, I'd rather have raw strength in my legs and upper body than a washboard stomach.

i don't know if "diet too strict" is really true... sure it's more strict than not being under that 10%, but unless you're looking to be completely shredded, i think it's doable and still being able to "live life" and not be a slave to your diet...

Trust me--the best I'll get is "flat" (with luck). I had a belly in high school. No matter what I've done, I've had one. Just can't shake it. I'm fine with that. At 2 months away from 40, there aren't many dudes with 6-packs at that age.

BTW--those runner chicks are shredded. No boobs, but shredded. Nice.

Apparently the whole genetics thing and abs must be true because to my surprise, I'm actually showing abs and I have a crapload of body fat still going on. Haven't done a single sit-up.

Lots of body fat still...

Depending on your size/weight, a store like H&M carry pants that are slim (they carry both slim and skinny I believe). Topman is another good one, also carries slim, skinny, and painted-the-fuck-on-they're-so-tight pants. Zara is another good one, etc....

Since I usually get my jeans at Target, I might have to check those out.

I dunno if they'll work for someone with short legs and a thick middle (me), though \:\(

Alright guys...the day of the "unveiling" has come!

I've really come a long way, in a big part thanks to you guys, and it's still only the beginning but the change already is huge for me, never really imagined I'd have this much definition ever.

Fantastic progress. Great to see that the results are coming.

I don't know what it will take to get wider shoulders, but that will balance everything out a bit better. Moreso working on your pecs.

Keep it up. It's always good to see hard work pay off.
