I did the seafoam process 1/3 can in tank, oil and intake
it seemed to help my 160k mile N/A outback.

Seafoam works. How much of it gets sold to people who don't really need it is beside the point.

When I got my '91 Volvo 16v, cylinder 3 was off the charts compression-wise because of a bad injector that just dribbled gas into it and filled it with buildup. Got my injectors cleaned and went through a can and a half of seafoam through the brake booster vacuum hose before the compression ended up within 10% of the other cylinders. Not having to pull the headgasket? Not priceless, but a lot cheaper.

I'll run a can through the gas tank once a year or so when I imagine I hear uneven idle - no way of knowing if I'm actually accomplishing anything there.

I've used both. I prefer BG stuff from my experience at Toyota.

I'd imagine you could eat off the pistons.

A modern combustion chamber really shouldn't have any buildup on the pistons/head. All the honda and mitsu heads i have pulled were clean here. They would get this super hard coating on the exhaust valves that was only removed by replacing the valves or chucking them up in a drill and sandpapering off the deposits.

However the EGR valve does a number on the intake runners and back of the intake valve. I think this is where most of the gains are coming from with these cleaners. I had good results years ago cleaning my 4g63 with the mopar stuff. So it helps, but the reasons why I think are different on each engine design.

Another thing, many NAPA locations are now doing fuel injector cleaning service. People don't realise how much dirt is in the fuel they buy. Evo's either clog or for some reason damage the stock injectors easily. Many of my friends evo's throw a cyl misfire after about 50K miles and then they have to clean or replace the stock injectors to get rid of the cyl misfire code.

My 4cyl 06 Accord has 60k on it and I ran half a can through the tank and plan on putting the other half in the engine oil a couple hundred miles before the next change. Good idea?

Won't hurt anything, provided sludge isn't enough of an issue to seal worn seals or clog the oil filter.

I soaked the tops of my pistons in Seafoam when I replaced the valve seals in the Neon. It took care of the carbon build up pretty nicely.

I'm thinking about doing a home-cleaning on the injectors I just picked up. Am I correct that I can pulse Seafoam through them with a 9V battery as a method of cleaning them out? They are Lucas 1200cc injectors for what it's worth.

This guy did it. And he even had to go to work after that!

I've also heard using water through the brake booster or a vacuum hose works just as good, if not better.

I tried the water trick back in the mid-90's (on a 2.5 Acclaim), but I didn't notice any improvements. I think that's the problem with most deposit cleaning methods - if something isn't radically wrong, or you haven't physically seen the carbon build up before and after, it's impossible to tell if what you just did worked.

Vacuum hose from the brake booster works just fine, just make sure you don't pour to much in or you'll stall the engine out.

Anyone besides scargoes try bb 44k? I've tried seafoam quite a few times already. I change the oil and plugs after about a thousand miles or so just wanted to hear anecdotes.

Flat 6 Engineering (Porsche M96 engine specialist) recommends Seafoam - said to run a can through my car after I had the IMS retrofit installed there, along with other while you are in there stuff. I tried to buy a can at AutoZone, and the manager was pushing some other brand on me saying it's the same thing. I was there with the intent of getting the Seafoam - he thought I was crazy for paying $3 more.

I used Seafoam on the Miata right after I bought it and the immediate oil change afterwards was very, very gnarly (bits of coal/carbon and very small bits of a gritty substance that could've also been carbon). Can't say I've seen that shit in the oil since, so I think it did something.

Pouring enough in to stall the engine was what many people did in the LS1 community when seafoam became popular.

I've used seafoam in several vehicles from geo metros to sr20 swapped S chassis with great results every time. I now work at a shop that does BG services so we use the 44k (its just a pour in) but we also have an induction system injector-doohicky that does the same thing as feeding seafoam into a vacuum hose, but it's a canister that gets pressurized with shop air and then has a nozzle that you slip into the intake tract and slowly meter the other cleaner in. Supposedly the combo of the 44k in-tank and air injector cleaner stuff is magical! If I hadn't have already seafoamed the Miata, maybe I would have tried the BG thing, our customers seem to love it. The quality of the BG products seems to be stellar.

I've been doing about 7500mi oil changes and the oil never gets dirty or dark, just rich amber. I'm at about 180k mi.
