Well, we know that triathletes and bicycles don't mix.

I did a lazy decent distance today. 55.44 miles/3:27:44. 16.0mph avg. No motivation to go fast, just wanted to rack up some miles.

so i got a terrrrrible call up today at cross. i had to start mother freaking 93rd out of 126 in the cat2/3 race. ended up 20th. BOOM! race 2 tomorrow. hopefully i can make a better race of it since ill get called up 20th now.

our buddy races UCI Elite and he ended up in a sprint with todd wells for the finish, he came in 2nd though but was still awesome to watch

yeah man! had to do some work! haha

today was race #2, course run in reverse. so idk how they pick your call up, but today i got bumped up 15 spots and started 78th. finished 17th. 131 kill points for the weekend lol was a great weekend, new bike is awesome and i think i now have the cross bug as well

Rode 50 miles today with a friend who just got a bike, stuck to his pace and I wanted to stab my eyes out. Kind of fun to see how far I've come when 17 mph avg is boring.

I can't do 17mph for 50. For 25-30, sure, but 50, I burn out.

I paid karma forward today. I saw an older gentlemen on the side of the bike path and I gave the obligatory "you OK???". He replied "I'm not sure", so then came Bicycle Repairman (me) out of the woodwork



He flatted and while removing his rear wheel, he lost the c-clip that held the quick release together. He was LOST at what to do. I told him not to worry, as I was a former bike mechanic.

As I chatted with him (with my MS Society "Mission Possible" jersey), he asked me about the MS150, I told him about my experiences with it and my wife's experiences with MS. Changed his tube out in a jiffy and pieced the rear quick release together. Clamped it shut and it held just fine.

I told him that this clearly wasn't a permanent fix, but it beat walking for 7 miles. He thanked me profusely and said that he'd love to donate to my ride next year. I texted him my name and e-mail.

Checked my e-mail tonight and he donated $50 to the MS Society in my name. Pretty awesome.

It's a very very flat trail. Also we stopped at a bar at the halfway point and watched football for a while and ate/drank \:D

i rode it haha there were barriers right at the bottom and then maybe 10m ft of flat then the hill. just hopped back on and rode it. look at my forearms, im pulling like a mother to get up it lol and on day 2, they threw some logs on the course when they reversed it....about 80% of the people dismounted and ran over them. i made sure i rode them, im a mountain biker damn it!

Rear wheel ate my derailleur for lunch today (I'm an idiot--swapped to my other wheels and didn't make sure it was set in a gear, pedaled off and CRUNCH).

Turned around and got my backup bike. Rode into a decent headwind.

Got caught in the rain at almost the farthest point out.

That storm changed the wind direction, so I rode BACK in a headwind. Pretty miserable 31 miles today.

There was a voicemail on my phone when I checked it back at my car--my friend Matt opening with "happy Friday the 13th!!!".

48 miles today. I was absolutely cooked at the end and nearly bonked out. I was early enough and the clouds kept the temp down, but I still had a 10mph headwind for much of the return adding to the typical summer humidity which will probably last another 2 weeks. I never really felt great on the ride, tailgate party yesterday didn't help. Oh well, it was good to log the miles and once nice conditions finally roll around I'm sure I will appreciate them even more.

charm city cross in baltimore today, raced cat 2/3 race. 127 starters, i started 11th. tough course and finished 13th. here is the joy of the double sand pits!

yeah man that shit was deep lol. the one in the background you hit first, but you had some speed going into it, so you could make it through pretty easy if you were in a rut. but after that, its a 180 hairpin and this one. so you have no speed. i think tomorrow im just going to run the 2ne one. prob be faster.

Gotta clean it up after a race like that. If he went and rode a century on it without cleaning it, that wouldn't be so good.

I'm surprised you could even ride through that sand. That shit is hard to get through on an MTB.

nah didnt mess it up, messed with the brake more then anything with getting the and sand stuck to the brake track.

today was race 2, rained 8 hours overnight. course dried out well by the time i raced so it was nice and tacky. started 13th/127 today, had a poor start, slid back to mid 20s...managed to claw my way back to a 11th place finish out of 127 in the cat2/3 race. came down to a sprint for 10th but i lost by about 2 bike lengths

gamby, sand wasnt bad as long as you were in a groove, if you got out of that things got sketchy lol

raced IronCross Ultra CX race today. was a mix of mostly gravel roads, some pavement and a little singletrack. can use either cross bike or mtb, although you should use CX in spirit of the event. first time racing it, but i knew the area due to going to college by there. 2nd hardest race ive done this year after that 12hr endurance race. it was 67.5 miles, 7100ft of climb. took me 5 hours and i came in 24th place out of 90. it was bruuuuutal. 5 CAT4 climbs, 6 CAT3 climbs and a fun hike up and over the mountain at a 53% grade lol

One of my teammates raced IronCross today, I'm waiting on his race report...I think he's been doing it since '05. He said it's one of his favorite ultra-CX races.

I opted to skip this week CX race to ride with a good friend that's in town for the weekend, he said it would be an easy ride because he raced IM Lake Tahoe last week. His idea of easy and mine are completely different. LOL He had me sucking wind and his wheel almost the whole ride.

i know that feeling. i raced with a team mate today who had a pro contract back in the day ( hes 39 now though), hasnt raced anything in over a year and a half, so we were going to work together and before the race he said he would pull me along if i was near the front towards the end since hes just here to ride it. well, he went like a bat out of hell from the gun and dropped me in the first 100 yards and i never saw him again LOL still freaking fast!

here is the wigwam run up. this was that .1mile, 53% grade climb. took me over 5 minutes to walk it


then after we got up that, we had this kick in the balls 1/4 mile later
