Eventhough my 07 Si is a great car in many ways, I would love to have an SIR for a weekend car or even a fun daily driver. Sure, they were never the fastest things on 4 wheels, but they were so simple and easy to mod and work on. Very clean looking, simple interior, tons of parts available.
One of my neighbours has an all original, bone stock VSM 00 SIR that he has owned since new. The paint and the interior are getting a little worn and it has a few door dings and they usual wear-and-tear damage from an almost 10 year old car, but mechanically it is perfect and he has always taken good car of it maintenance wise.
Everyfew months I ask him if he wants to sell it and when he does to let me know. Ive seen many for sale that have been modded to no end or just beat on by some kid who couldnt afford to maintain it, theft recovery rebuilts, and imports from who knows where in the US. Its getting harder to find a decent one still in basic original condition.

At least that's what Henley Honda in St.Catharines had them stickered at..

Mine was 31K OTD. I didnt get any deals on mine and Im getting raped by a high interest rate unlike whats available today. Honda recently lowered the prices of them by about 1K, so now the MSRP is just under 26K.
Now that Ive decided to keep it a little longer and the warranty is expired, Im going to start modding it over the winter. They have been out for a few years and there are plenty of parts available.

New SiR in 00 was around 23,300 iirc. + tax freight etc
I paid only 4 grand off sticker in 02 for a late built 2000 with 53K. They were hard to find, and theft recoveries and salvages were already kicking around. Was a lot of money, but other than being afraid of it getting stolen(more so when it was newer), it has been a hoot and I don't regret the purchase one bit.

I was close to selling my SiR I had a guy in my driveway offering me 5,700 and I turned him down, I wasn't going to take anything less than 6.
I leased for 4 years and bought out, so I was probably close to 34K and to sell it for 6 felt like a huge loss considering how well the car has been taken care.
As it turned out it was the best for me, I ended up keeping the SiR for my fun/reliable car....some day I want to turbo or build a LSVtec.

When I was doing my 1+ hour commute to work, I was staring to hate my Si. Too loud, too stiff, too much shifting, etc. Too much work.
Now that Im unemployed and just bombing around the country roads near my place, Im starting to love it again. Sure its no SiR, but it handles great and the K20 pulls pretty hard compared to anything else Ive ever owned. Ive complained about the rattles ans the cheapo plastic interior, but I dont even care anymore because Im staring to realize how fun the car is.
And the $38K GTI I looked at the otherday handled like a pig in comparison.

I miss driving a honda and absoultly beating the shit out of it everytime I drove it. Parts were easy to find, cheap in price, and the car was paid for, which was the best thing.
Sorry EM1 guys, had to post some old pics of my shivic.
Last pic I took of the car before it was sold days later...busted up a lip I use to have on it.

Maybe they are lumped together with normal Civics. There are tons of those left.
Im not surprised at all about all the Chev/GM trucks. They all end up on the reservation in Caledonia.

yeah, I still don't know how the EM1 is still on top of the list when its so rare to actually see one of them on the road...if you do see one the thing is in the worst shape.
You guys fail to realize that most stolen also ties in with insurance fraud. Like when people crash their cars up and then sell them for parts and say the car got stolen.
Overall theft must be down considerably for a rare old vehicle to still be number 1 over extremely common and lets face it more profitable cars to chop up like a late model corolla or civic. SiR parts aren't worth what they used to be.
All those escalades make sense, They are no longer considered trendy with the recent move towards enviro friendly cars, and they are hard to sell for a decent buck. If you can sell it to some guy in an alley for 5,000 and get your insurance money its better than taking a complete bath on the trade in value.
