this should answer all of your questions on whether or not a 3 inch exhaust is worth while on a turbo car. i previously tuned the car on 12psi and 15psi. with the new exhaust system i couldnt get the boost to go below 15psi.....(lovefab manifold with 38mm wastegate) so it made a perfect over lap of 15psi of 2.5 inch exhaust and 15psi 3 inch exhaust.
car is a stock bore H22 with love fab manifold, stock intake manifold, 2.5 downpipe, a custom 3 inch exhaust i did.....greddy intercooler with very restrictive intercooler piping. 93 octane pump gas. and stock cams
Absolutely NO changes done to the car other than the exhaust. NOTHING.
the little dip in the midrange is from very rich air/fuel in that area. the MSD took a crap during the dyno session so i dint get to clean that up. very minimal timing and rich and safe air fuel. needless to say, he was very pleased with his new exhaust system

That's only because it's a vtec engine
Was this the dual exhaust setup you did for the car?

Things don't work quite the same with superchargers.... freeing up backpressure doesn't have the same benefits as on an app. where you're pushing a turbine.

nice..shit over 70whp. but is that due to higher boost level. man I wish I can bare the noise of the 3' dp though. arrrh.

no the boost level is exactly the same, 15psi on those 2 runs.
with the smaller exhaust i had a "low boost" and "high boost" settings, with the wastegate placement i was unable to go below 15psi this time.
i took the old 15psi chart and over lapped the new 15psi chart, so no change it boost.
the same 2.5 inch downpipe was used for both runs you see as well.

What about low boost applications like 5-8 psi? Due to budget reasons, I'm going to run the sucky Greddy downpipe and a 60MM (2 3/8") exhaust. I want to upgrade the downpipe to a 2.5 in the future, but not sure about the exhaust.

I don't know about that. A half inch might stall the car.
I would love to see a comparison test on a car runing 7psi.

any coupe/sedan 96-00 civic can use the same exhaust IIRC.
Resonator would be a great addition.

Well I finally upgraded my exhaust. Prior to this upgrade, I was using a Greddy SP, the baffle in the muffler is blown, and I have a blown cat too. I ended up buying a 3" Kteller exahust, 3" test pipe, 18" resonator, and The 5x8 magnaflow muffler from kteller, bolted up to a spoolin performance 3" downpipe... This thing is F'ING LOUD!!!!! I dont know how your guys can drive with the Kteller setup, the interior is louder then the exterior. Low rpm cruising @ 2500-3500rpm is just drowing! the power increase is insane though, a much more noticable difference and I"m only running 6psi on a greddy kit. I need to come up with a solution, or I'm selling this thing too loud! This is my daily driver so it's irritating.
here's a vid (cold start & idle)

i think its the muffler on the thermal exhaust that quiets them down.
