Next stage:

already have: Skunk2 IM (old style) and JDM ITR TB bored to 70mm, port matched to IM
To get: velocity stack w/filter, SKunk2 stage 1 cams, then the fuel system... Not sure about that yet. Hoping to make 185-190 @ 8000 RPM if possible (LS crank FTL )

This is the car

Thanks dude, it runs very well now, nice and smooth... Also reliable which is the whole idea. I'm not trying to get all crazy here, I'm happy with what it makes right now, I just want a *little* more without sacrificing reliability.

Why small cams? More cam is always better. Can you not rev high enough with the LS crank to take advantage of Skunk S2's? All you should need for the fuel system is a decent (not Walbro) pump and a set of cheap DSM injectors, right?

You can usually find those for near-free and send them to this local guy, fuel system done: http://www.witchhunter.com/

Skunk2 is about as beefy as I can go without rebuilding the whole valvetrain. AGAIN, lol.

edit: and yea, some people will be all "Don't be a pussy you can rev it higher than 8, you can get bigger cams, blah blah blah..." But I don't want my shit to blow up again so I'm taking it easy. 185-190 would be plenty for me with an NA setup.

you should buy my BC III+'s \:\)

stick with the aem, dont go with one of those boxed looking intake setups. even my comptech icebox made me lose power. i took off the lid on one of my runs with the cams im running now, and i gained 15 whp lol. wasnt getting sufficient amount of air with that stupid ice box.

With the BC3+'s, i only made 178 on a dynojet, but i was still using the ice box at this point, and i was maxing out my 310's since i didnt have a 255 fuel pump at the time.

my buddy managed to get 195 whp on the same dyno with BC3's on his B18c w/PCT's. still using his oem dual spring valvetrain. hes had that setup for a couple of years now.

you should be fine with a walbro 255 and 310 injectors, or if you could find type arr injectors you could use thoes too, but youll probably max out the injector duty past 8500

the hatch looks fuckin clean, makes me wish i had vsm.

Nice!! So what is your setup these days then? Sorry I did not read thru this whole thread...

I have actually heard a lot about the Buddy 3's lately, LOL my buddy Kyle keeps saying "Buddy 3 or GTFO" lol... How is the drivability with those cams? Do they idle nicely, do you start up easy?? And thanks J, I really love this car but I still miss my FBP... Fuckin thieves.

Toda C's

Custom fab craptech intake ;\)
ITR IM/72mm TB/ITR header/test pipe/T1R mid pipe/ITR axle back

RC 310's/Walbro 255lph pump

Tuned on Power FC. Not to be confused with that piggyback shit. Making 172/131, need to replace my foam filter with a K&N, need a better header, and use my T1R axle back if I want to be in the 190 range. I wasnt making any power past 8k lol.

BCIII+'s idle fine (Toda's idle fine too with the right amount of vacuum.) Car would start to pick up after 3000 rpms. I was averaging 25 mpg street+highway, and around 29 on the highway.

Nate, there is a lot of technical information about valvesprings out there on a forum writeup that I will try to dig it up and post it. The engineering speak boils down to this: A really stiff valvespring is only necessary with a high lift AND high engine speed application, and a medium stiffness valvespring is fine on either a high lift/medium engine speed app or non-aggressive cam with high engine speed. So your 9000-rpm safe ITR springs should be fine with higher lift and duration like the BCIII's or S2S2.

Not enough fuel pump is a bad situation. Especially because at different temperatures and voltages your pump will max out at a different pressure/flow level, so the 'plateaued' area of your fuel map where you start really opening up the inject flow in msec, will have huge variances in running lean to rich or vice-versa. If you open the injector pulsewidth up and AFR does not go richer, time to back off. Easily lose an engine that way.

Interesting. I made 191 with ITR cam's on a c5 block with PCT's. Stock injectors (91% duty cycle) and stock pump.

Indeed.

You need some SERIOUS work to break 200 whp on a 1.8 with this dyno.

Tune is perfect though. No knock, and getting 24/28 mpg.

Eh, the car proved itself many times while racing, it was fast as balls. I wish it were still around to race my M3 before I boost it.

The motor is still around, and made 223 whp with BC4's IIRC. It's been a while though..

That was with a different head setup, cams, and much more supporting mods. It was retuned by the new owner at a different shop, not SlowMotion (where I had mine dyno'd originally).

Here's my old dyno that I just dug up:
