Id hit that deal. Not a bad price at all. Those are good pads too. Now just get yourself some some good polishes and waxes and youll be good to go. (read this thread for my suggestions).

Ok I went ahead and ordered Autopia's kit today... Now I need to figure out what I should buy/use for detailing. I'll be using the kit on 3 cars: My Firehawk (Black) and Civic (Milano Red) as well as my grandparent's Escalade. (Pearl white)

Right now the detailing products I have are:
Meg's Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner
Meg's Deep Crystal System Polish
Meg's NXT Liquid wax
Meg's Gold Class car wash

I know I need a Carnuba wax and was going to order the PS1 wax from autopia, since I have a 15% off coupon.
Anything else I need in terms of products?

Cheers

EDIT: I also have some Zaino Polish (z2) and swirl remover (z5) lying around the house that I forgot about.

I tried that on my neighbors truck...only a yr or 2 old ford 150...paint is in great shape..except on the hood..it has the same etching like my trunk & wing..

We both rubbed forever trying to get it off...NOTHING. Used distilled vinager and a microfiber towl...

Check out PS1 wax from autopia. I think Purdina was the one who posted about it. I just ordered some.

My process will be something like:
Sonus Paintwork Cleanser
Zaino Polish (Z2)
Meg's NXT wax
PS1 Carnuba

When I start detailing I'll make sure to take before and after pics for reference.

Adam, if you can let me know how you like the Poorboys stuff, I may try some of that in the future.

Well I finally got around to trying out my Porter Cable on the trunk of my Civic and came to the conclusion that I need a heavier swirl remover. lol

I initially used Sonus Paintwork Cleanser about 2-3 times on the area, trying to get rid of most of the swirls (which it did) Now all that's left are the deeper ones. \:\(

I followed it up with some NXT then a light coat of P21S, just to see how it turns out.

Any recomendations of a swirl remover? I have some Zaino Z5 swirl remover, but I'm sure sure if it is aggressive enough to handle the swirls. Matt mentioned Poor Boys 2.5 (I might even go with 3) What ya think Purdina?....Anyone?...Bueller?

EDIT: No pics, left the digi cam in SD. \:\( Cell Phone pics FTL

I've detailed 5 black cars in the past week. For each car, I've used Meguairs professional Heavy cut cleaner ( here ) followed with Sonus SFX-2 Swirl remover ( here ). A few of the cars were in horrible condition, and all 5 of them came out looking brand new. The finished results were amazing, and the owners were extremely satisfied (as was I). Unfortunately, since I dont have a camera, i dont have any pics, but I asked the owners to take a few, and hopefully i'll have some soon. Just be sure that if you use the heavy cut cleaner, that you follow up with a glaze, like the #3 ( here ), in order to bring the gloss back.

Edit: Let it be noted that you don't always need to use the heavy cut - i just use that because I'm detailing cars that most likely have never been detailed before and have many imperfections in the paint. There is also a medium and light cut cleaner that will also work well depending on the job. Also, meg's #7 (show car glaze) also works well. I'm still trying to figure out which i like better, 3 or 7.

Well, my Civic is Milano Red, and looks like it's never really been detailed, other than car washes. \:\( So I need something that can give me a good base to start with.

I think I'll go pick up some medium cut cleaner tomorrow. I'm not sure if the Zaino (z5) is aggressive enough of a compound. I'd rather work my way up to a heavy than start there if I didn't need to. Like I said I used the Paintwork Cleanser which according to Autopia is a ultrafine compound.
Should I stick with the NXT as my glaze? I was thinking about picking up some Klasse all in one or the Klasse High Gloss sealant glaze in the future.

I absolutely HATE using Meg's #7. It seems like it is so much work to put that damned glaze onto the car, and take off is no easier. Mother's and Meguiar's are good at making consumer products, and they make them well. However, for the avid detailer, I have found that there are numerous other brands which Mothers and Megs cannot even compete with. I love my Poorboy's. The SSR2.5 is a VERY good swirl remover and can get almost all swirls out of dark colored (and light colored, obviously) cars. However, the SSR3 can get what the 2.5 cant, but it is VERY abrasive and WILL dull your paint. So, if you go with the SSR3, you need to follow that up with the SSR2.5 and then the SSR1. The SSR3 gets deeps swirls out by creating a very abrasive surface, and by doing so, it leaves TONS of swirls, which the SSR2.5 can easily get out. So, if you go straight from SSR3, to a carnauba, your car MIGHT look decent from far away, but in direct light, itll look like bucocky.

Really? WTF? I have never had any problems applying it. Are you sure you weren't using too much? Glaze will take a bit longer to work into the paint, but i've had no problems taking it off at all.

I havent tried poorboys yet, so I have no comment, but the combinations I've been using work absolutely great for me.

I'm not familiar with the NXT that you're using. Do you have a link? It needs to be a real glaze in order to bring back the glossy look that the abrasives will dull down.

Also, may I suggest a better sealant before using the P21s? It's a great finishing wax, however, it doesn't last very long, so usually I'd suggest using something underneath unless you wax it 2-3+ times a year.

Meg's NXT Tech Wax

Well I did use the NXT wax before apply the P21S, I really just did it to try out the products I got. \:\)

So, I think I've got this down...
Scratch remover - something like Sonus SFX-1
Followed by the Paintwork Cleanser
Then a good glaze, such as Klasse Sealant Glaze
P21S Carnuba

I usually use the cleaner (heavy cut or medium cut) first and then the swirl remover after. That klasse sealant glaze is awesome stuff - i recommended it earlier in the thread. That will work as both your glaze and a better sealant than the P21S so you have some better long term protection on your paint. I highly suggest it.

As for the NXT wax, its just a wax, and wont really create a gloss look after a cleaner.

Also, again keep this between us, but use the coupon code "autopia" for a discount of 10% savings on everything on autopia's site. So basically, you can get 10% off at all times on stuff from autopia or autogeek. They gave me the code since I ordered a good amount of stuff from them in the past month.

I just ordered a backup yellow (aggressive) pad, the big jug of klasse polish/sealant, 1 gallon of 303 aerospace protectant, some sonus clay bar lubricant, and a few other minor things. These 10% discounts really help!!

I'm thinking of ordering that awesome little vacuum on the autogeek site here soon - that thing looks awesome! I've been using my moms really nice indoor vacuum with her attachments for detailing. It works fine for vacuuming a car once in a while, but for daily use it absolutely sucks, is too big, and shes gonna kill me if I break it. I also need something for my garage when I get back to my house at school.

Ya know- Im FINALLY glad to see some participation in this forum. I think Im going to make this into a sticky thread for detailing related discussion.

Bobby-

Ive been eyeing the vacuum for the longest time myself, I just have yet to pull the trigger on it. Oh well, a time will come. Also, Adam- Be sure if you order the SSR3, to get the 2.5 and the 1 along with it. You have to gradually work your way back down or else youll have a fair amount of microswirling left in your finish. Although it will be invisible to an untrained eye, well, you get the point.
