Got rid of the focus and have now started on gutting out this Aveo to make it as quick as possible. My goals are 1800 lbs and 300 hp. Here are a few pictures:

In stock trim:

Latest look:

Gutted interior:
an older picture before the sawzall cut most of the dash and passenger side airbag out:

Let me know what you guys think. I have a turbo setup in store for it in the future. I have it running 16 flat now. I think in cooler weather, I could easily be into the 15's. The last time I dynoed it, it had 87.56 hp at the wheels.

lol, odd car to try and mod into a drag racer......but it does have the lightweight thing going for it.

plan on swapping in a new motor, or just throwing the turbo in there?

I forgot to post a picture of the drag racing setup. It's an older picture though:

I plan on putting the turbo kit in, but I want to take it slow and make sure I have all bases covered first (i.e. fuel, timing, piping). Once I finally blow up the engine, I know it will happen, I am looking to do a swap in of an ecotec engine.

Its really different; needs boost or nitrous to get it going now. Would be cool if you coud drop a nasty motor in it.

Because nobody else is. If nobody else was modifying any Honda, would that prevent you from modifying yours????

A car with a headlight removed for fresh air, drag wheels and tires, and no interior; but a stock engine is a "sleeper?"

I think you need to re-read your automotive dictionary.

On another note,
Is that the exhaust sticking out the front bumper? How do you get it to and from the track?

Eventually, I plan on getting a truck and some kind of enclosed trailer for this car, but for now, I still drive it to and from the track. I guess a man can't take up a project with a car other than what has been done before. It's simply a goal of mine to get this car into the 10's. Who knows if it can be done??? Another reason I chose this car was because I can always get the employee discount no matter what time of year, so if something breaks on it or I need a new engine, then it's not going to be as expensive. My next step is to start modifying the engine and i'm kicking around the idea of adding nitrous. A nice 75 shot would almost halve the current power to weight ratio. Keep your imput coming though, I appreciate all comments.

Hey man, Big-ups - Much Respect

Props for doing something original . Nevermind the bunch of snivelling kids on this site who can't see past the end of their Honduh Badge (I'm a former owner so I know the type well)

Back in the late 80's early 90's the majority of the modding world laughed at the thought of modding a Honda (and look where they are today) , I'm not suggesting that Kia / Daewoo(your car) / Hyundai etc are going to become the next Honda but still awesome that you're doing it

I also chose something different from Honduh thats why I got rid of my 2000 hatch and then my 2002 SIR (my new car happens to be the very reason why GM decided to sell the Aveo in the first place)

Keep us posted on your progress

In the meantime here is what a subcompact can look like with a little work (2005 Echo Hatchback)

Looks like an interesting project... The idea is great, I can see how you could actually pull it off too... Ever thought about dropping a V6 in teh back?

Here are some of the latest pictures. Let me know what you guys think:

Here is what is going to be put in this coming Tuesday:

I've almost reached my goal of 1800 lbs. It now sits at 1803 lbs in drag racing trim. The power weight ratio is still very high though, so i'll have to see what it does being on the bottle. My best run at the strip so far is a 16.052 @ 82.21

It had 87.5 hp at the wheels from the last dyno so I'm hoping by adding this 75 shot that I should be at or near 140 at the wheels. I'm also hoping to break into the 14's the next time at the strip. We'll see. I still have to get a custom steel plate made to match the exhaust flange with the T3/T4 hybrid turbo I have sitting here. I will post more pictures of the car next week with the nitrous installed and also the latest dyno sheet when I get it.

1803lb with driver? or without? if that's with... that's light...

without a driver... why don't you shoot for 1800lbs w/ driver?

Have you done any work to the internals? Will that motor support that 75 shot?

Looks good.

you need to gut the wires... I can see a speaker wire in the door, also do you really want the exposive seatbelts anymore? Looks to be a ton of electrical still to remove. Once you don't have to drive it to the track, those side markers could go. Also you getting plexi for the windows? they look removed, won't it have wind resistance at the back, against the tailgate?

you will need a cage will you not?

Hey nice job man! You could lose another 50lbs. by getting the sound deadening/fire proofing material out of there. If you get a chunk of dry ice and rub it over the material you can basically smash it off with a hammer and/or chisel. Good luck! Keep us updated.

Of course , I would of chosen a hatch or a CRX for this kind of project, but whatever floats your boat...... then again this is a lightweight car, not many options but I am sure you can reach your goal and will probably blow the engine!!!! But I am sure it would be a fun journey!!!!! Good luck!!!

I was just saying the other day that I wanted to see someone fix one of these up. I'd def. go for the ecotec swap. There's a dragster out there with a 900hp ecotec in it.

I think this is the coolest project I've seen for a while. def. original.

Alright just picked the car up and drove it about 35 miles on the freeway home. It is quite a rush when I floor it and I look at the speedometer almost instantly jump 7-10 mph. It has a 70 shot on it right now, but I am still looking to get a custom intake made for it so that I can run the direct port system. I was not able to get the track tonight or to the dyno, but I will schedule one in the next few days. Here are some pictures:

I still have to get a valve to hook up that vent pipe to the bottle and then out the bottom of the car. There is already a hole drilled for it. I also need to get a purge line/(s) put in.
