We went through a car jackings wave. Police said to basically hand over your keys. Then we have all these jewelry store smash-and-grabs. Security films, but little more is done. Now we have home invasions and we're told to comply with the criminal's demands. Targeted murders and dead or injured innocent are just normalized.
I can't imagine that we're ok with this. It's turning into a third-world cesspool. Where are the root causes, and what are the fixes?
Justice system is screwed when we are more worried about the hardship on accused persons than we are about the rights of victims. Society is screwed when we are more concerned about personal liability than we are about holding criminals accountable, or standing up for each other. In my view, we are collectively getting soft (and complacent) and we're allowing a small number of scum to have their way. At least a part of this problem stems from our shitty immigration policies, letting all sorts of people into the country, way too quickly, without thorough vetting. We should not be importing problems. And of course, the inability of our justice system to keep actual criminals locked-up, or hold "youths" accountable.
If someone enters a home uninvited, I expect that there's good chance someone is leaving on a stretcher or in a bag. I'm not sure I would leave it at the mercy of the criminal to just take what they want, then leave.
Thoughts?

make it make sense because I can't and I don't understand why there is no reform especially for self defense.

Canada has become lawless.
People pillaging the LCBO like their own liquor cabinet without a care.....kids running around with hammers and robbing malls.
If I was a business owner, I'd likely be in jail already because I'd shoot those kids in the face trying to rob me.
It is so bad, it is comical. I think we need Batman because the cops and the law is useless.

I can agree with your sentiment, but I assure you, the cops are mostly doing their best. They arrest these criminals, but the courts let them back out because they don't believe in punishment. They believe these acts of crime are 100% the result of social issues, and that the individual should have no accountability. There's a lot of talk about changing the laws to make them harsher.
I suppose we can look at mandatory minimums, but then you would only be able to add that to very specific offenses. The laws and punishments are in place. We just need the will of the judges and justices to actually put the victim first, instead of the criminals.
The LCBO stuff is just unreal. I think at the height of it, there was a video of a guy going in with a hockey bag on wheels, filling that up, and just wheeling out. Cray.
