While it's great that this kid will obviously go to school for free, I wonder what that level of training is going to do to him in terms of stunting growth or other issues.

I don't think it's much different than a kid that age in any sport at a mid-high level. Hopefully his parents are extremely active in guiding and nurturing his interest in the sport.

...a lot of miniscule male gymnasts result from massive exertion as kids. See also those female gymnasts who don't go through puberty until they're 20.

I think it's a legit concern.
