but also http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-debate-over-running-while-high-1423500590 Ultrarunning gets into the Wall Street Journal and it's some bullshit article about smoking pot. I wasn't aware there was a raging debate over this topic. Anyway, the article is particularly funny to me because the main runner they interviewed was Avery Collins a 22 year old "professional ultramarathoner" who moved to Steamboat Springs last fall. I still haven't met the kid but he won a handful of races I've never heard of before http://ultrasignup.com/results_participant.aspx?fname=Avery&lname=Collins And apparently works at Sports Authority according to people who've asked me "hey man, have you met that new guy Avery?" He DNF'd at Run Rabbit Run in September and I first heard of him when the local paper ran an article on him for winning Cloudsplitter 100 mile (Kentucky's first 100 mile race) http://www.steamboattoday.com/news/2014/oct/07/steamboat-runner-wins-100-mile-race/ CN: I enjoy the sport being a little off the beaten path but I still cringe when I see articles like this. I feel especially bad for the Rob Krars and Ian Sharmans of the sport who strive to be taken seriously and then get undermined by 22 year old "professional" stoners |

Just watched the video It's interesting, at the end the reporter mentions most runners he contacted declined to comment and this Avery guy sounds like the only one willing. I'll be interested to see how this unfolds |

sounds like ultrarunners are the first "sport" to ever have recreational drug users associated with it. How will 'they' survive. I'm so worried for the "Real" athletes *trolling limit per thread: achieved |

I mentioned this in a previous thread, but I really enjoy Biking/Running after smoking. I'm happy to be outside, nothing hurts, I always go longer distances, etc. |

Interesting. Are we talking immediately after? No burn out? |

sounds like that placebo effect tho, like you're actually in a field going in slow circles and falling down and you feel like you're smashing a PR at some distance in other words: does strava data backup the idea that you're any faster? |

If you're asking me specifically, I can assure you it isn't a placebo effect and my mood/legs hurting can't exactly be measured by any data. ...But better mood + no pain = run/bike further and run/bike faster and overall enjoying it more. |

There was an article in (the now-defunct MTB mag) Switchback that talked about the perceived advantages of riding while high and basically debunked them all. I was always baffled by the dudes I rode with who would hit the 1-hitter while on a ride break in the middle of the woods. I think I'd be even less likely to want to run while baked. |

No one is claiming it makes you faster, the article is specific to ultra running where the "performance enhancements" they mention are related to pain management and helping you take in calories. |

http://www.ultrarunning.com/featured/marijuana-and-ultrarunning-just-keep-digging/ Great response to the WSJ article. They even call Avery out with "22 year old 'professional' runner" references. Twice He just won Sean O'Brien 50 miler last weekend. Which sounds super impressive (and sure, it is) until you realize they added a 100K option this year and all the competitive runners did that instead. His winning time of 7:35 was 72 minutes slower than last year's winner and would've been good for 10th place. That seems to be his MO. Go dominate at races without much competition (2nd place at Sean O Brien was 45 minutes later) |

Marathons and marijuana: The loneliness of the long-distance dopehead Mother fucker!! I'm told this Avery kid is a bit of a douchebag so I'll be sure to tell him what I think of this stupid idea he's propagated when I finally run into him. |
