just bought a $90 used ebay turbo

This should go well. Guy freely admitted it was burning oil and had a little shaft play. As long as it doesn't look toasted, I'll rebuild myself and send it out for balancing. This is the same as Denmah used on the 9 second Fairmont I believe. Going on the Mav.

Thats a crackhead price. If it all works out you might as well pick one up for the PTCGT as well.

I know right? New level of cheapness achieved.
Will still be kinda cool if its broke and I display it in my man cave.

On a side note, I've rebuilt one turbo before. They are so simple for what they do.

Look at that packaging job! I was a little worried.
Looks like it actually survived (getting run over by a USPS truck?):
Shaft spins freely and not too much play, does not look like the blades touched the housing. I'm going to go ahead and order a rebuild kit soon.

Another one showed up, its like they multiply when I'm not looking.
I'll try to make good use of them but I have more turbos than cars now.

You're close Scootergeek...
I'll spill the beans on SVA since only the cool guys still come in here. I've been thinking compound boost.
1) FAT torque curve with good top end too. 2) No need for nitrous to spool the big turbo 3) No need for trans brake 4) I can run a tighter converter for better streetability/MPG 5) Same with rear end ratio, I'm going to run a 2.70.
Its been done on a few DSM's now with great results. Its easy on the turbos (a good thing for chinebay turbo's I'm guessing). 15psi per turbo wouldn't cause them to break a sweat yet yield a ton of psi to the motor (the first turbos 15psi is then squished again, aka Turboception). The little turbo should spool around 2600rpm on a 5.3.
Just in case this sucks I'm going to make the piping with a t4 flange and trial fit the big turbo to it, then use a t3/t4 adaptor with the little turbo.

apparently the thing with the ebay turbos is not to push them to the upper end of their HP rating. that and they are not even close to the same specs as turbo they're supposed to have copied.
I'm still not gonna use them though. Too much money wrapped up in my motor for that.

With each wastegate set at a measly 10psi, you get 26.8psi gauge to the engine. The smaller turbo is flowing denser/already compressed air so its not really working any harder than if it were compressing atmospheric air. With proper parts selection and a set of brass balls 4 digit horsepower levels are achievable with spool below 3k.

I'm still waiting for one of you guys to run a big VNT/VGT. Two turbos in one!

I had a Holset HE351vgt but ended up selling it. If it would have had a larger cold side I would have tried it on the Maverick.

I bought my rebuild kit for the GT45. Also put an offer on some "317" heads, these are LS6 style heads with big combustion chambers. Throwing them on a 4.8 increases flow and lowers cr to 8.5-1 (maybe a little higher CR for the 5.3).
Denmah does not recommend low cr on Ellis but he likes to live dangerously. lol

there's no reason to run low compression these days. tuning has become a long way.
